yeppers, you know I think we have added a link about that decrease in size in that single post where we compiled info on pullet eggs, just dont have time or willpower to jump into that pullet egg subject and actually prove all that stuff and put it together, there are pros and definitely cons to them. What made me research a bit more this morning is I had an issue with this last batch of eggs. Due to circumstances I didnt get the eggs turned for many days, I think I started turning after day 11 or so, Almost all the large Eggs DIS and the very small serama eggs, HOWEVER, all the mid size pullet eggs I had in there hatched perfectly, was really really odd. All of Mikes icelandics hatched in a mal position, one stuck didnt make it to finish zipping. I just found it strange that the older hens eggs DIS early like day 14 ort 16 by the looks of the embryos. Sorry so fast, trying to feed the kids and type and think.... dont work well as usual
It is true that pound for pound albumen in pullet eggs contains better nutrition, however, there is still limited space available.
Thanks @Sally Sunshine . She was only 58. I struggle with her loss every day. She was amazing. Thanks chaos and mike too!
:hugs My mom died at the same age. It was very sudden. She didn't even know she was sick. 4 days later she was gone.
awwwww Paddler I am so sorry, she had cancer as well? My friend passed away last year, wasnt feeling good took off work and found her in her bed, ovarian cancer spread.
Prebiotics and probiotics Anyone else feed their chickens and chicks this? I know a few do ferment, but those who dont? I know I have posted over and over how I love this specific product, Poultry ProVita Nutritional Supplement (a supplemental source of vitamins and direct-fed microbials (probiotics) along with Inulin (prebiotics) for backyard poultry) and fermenting feed and the use of ACV. Does anyone know if adding ACV in the same water would hurt these microbs? I use the pro bios for EVERY adult critter that I have because its easier for me in powder to add to feed than the above in waters. There are many abstracts proving how beneficial they are and how they also can effect the growth rate later on in life. I found this slide to help explain to those who dont understand pre pro biotics, if you care to have a look http://www.slideshare.net/drswaroopsoumya/prebiotics-and-probiotics-40275016
I use purina flock raiser which claims to contain prebiotics (inulin), probiotics, (Enterococcus faecium, Pediococcus acidilacticil, Bifidobacterium aniamalis, Lactobacillus reuteri.) and yeast culture(unspecified). I ferment by adding water, stir, wait. edited b/c forgot the inulin
Do they sell this in large quantities or you purchase that in those little bags? I have to buy Amish made layer feed and chick crumbles in100lb bags or I would go broke. I purchase dog food the same way, its winner high prot. I will have to switch when my dogs start to get fat lol.
:celebrate Maybe both cause the true minis probably wouldn't be much bigger then my goats when full grown. Then whats the point in having the mini cow if I can't eat his mini hamburgers?

Hi, Watermelon's Mom here... She thinks the chick is turned around and too big? (She's also crying because she really wanted this one, poor thing) Most of the shell is off, but it's just an egg shaped chicken?... I don't know if she should keep trying or not. :(

@Sally Sunshine
best of luck with the little boogers, you sure need it for them babies!!!

I know hun...I don't usually do this, but thought, will try once. They still have a couple of weeks to go. If they do make it by some miracle, I will be helping them out on day 20. I can't figure out how that top one could do an internal pip..no air pocket!
Sure is good to see your cute little self again.

I agree with what someone said, if it's been pipped that long, and that far, it should be fine to be taken out.

I'm so very sorry about your chick melon :hugs

From looking at your pic and what you have described it seems to have gotten into difficulty when zipping. Zipping should take no more than 60 - 90 minutes.
I'm not in general a helper when it comes to hatching but if I see one struggling during zipping I will just finish if off for them.

:hugs
