Yeah, but they don't do stuff during business hours, so she said they'll be able to have it sorted out in a week. so I won't have access to the money I transfered, for a week to 10 days, on top of making sure they fix it by refuding the 200, and the 40 dollar overdraft fee, and only take out what would have made the 300 dollar check clear. (Hubby bought a car part off ebay, using my acount, for 40, so I transfered 115 from my account to cover the 40 dollar difference.)

It's not THAT big of a deal, but this is my "fun" account, for goats, chickens, amazon, etc.... so I don't keep a huge amount in there, because I want to limit wasteful spending. LOL
yeah, unfortunately banks are like that
lol

I just don't get how such a big error like this could be made. What if we were poor and it was our main account? We'd be minus money, and unable to pay bills, buy groceries.... It doesn't make sense that it can take 3-5 business days to sort out something that's an automated process... especially when the person can see how it got screwed up and has access to the account and could fix it.

While it's not a big deal for me, in the big picture, I could see how this kind of error, could really harm other families if it had been their main bank account... and then what about the person who actually got the full 500 dollars? do they have to return the money, or did they just get a free 200 bucks? lol

the majority of banks open on saturdays have only a skeleton crew, if you use a bank that is nation-wide you may be able to have it fixed on a Saturday, IF you want to call the main bank and work with them rather than a local branch. I agree it can work out very badly for those that are barely scraping by. They will try to track down that person, but if that person does not have an account with them it is unlikely they'll get it back, it will be a write off and they will have it covered by insurance.

Yikes.

Well, they told me it was the other banks error, for cashing it wrong. So they will try to recoop their losses from the other bank, I think? But dang. I wonder if the teller who processed it will get in trouble. I mean, I guess in the big scheme of things, 200 dollars isn't THAT big of a deal, but... it's the mistake factor... what if it had been a check for 30,000 and they cashed it for 50,000... you know?

I remember when we did big cash deposits for our house, and think how it could get screwed up like that... it could have been the difference between our house closing on time, and screwing everything up for weeks or months due to a clerical error.

It makes you wonder how we didn't die off as a race, hundreds of years ago :p
It has happened before and it will happen again.
Over the centuries, there have been lots of human die offs ranging up to 90% in some areas. There were 2 viral epidemics in Mexico 25 years apart that killed 80% of the population the first time and 50% the second time.
various plagues, flu epidemics, yellow fever, cholera, dengue fever

The flu killed millions worldwide in the '50s and '60s and 75 million in 1920.
AIDS has killed 30 million in the Congo Basin alone.

Stronger immune systems. The weak didn't live to propagate. We were created perfectly, and IMHO, are downgrading with time.

I believe there is an issue with being "too clean" in our country.... Strong immune systems and microbiomes are not built by hand sanitizer!

There's a concern with overuse of antibiotics and the creation of superbugs. We are just one pandemic away.

Some germs are already in the US and resistant to all known antibiotics, even the one of last resort - carbapenem.

This is a very good read on the next global pandemic.

Yep! They just banned the use of antibacterial soap, for this reason. They recommend alcohol based hand sanitizer and regular soap now.

That would be bad. It sucks being poor.

That 3-5 day delay is another way banks make big money. It's called float. They earn interest of all of those delays.

That and automatically putting bous random charges on accounts. If someone complains, they return the money, the rest they keep.

Believe me it has happened

Even the APA recommends washing after touching chickens and not allowing small children to handle them.

I think hand washing after playing outside, or touching ANY animals are important.

However.... keeping small children from touching chickens isn't going to happen when you have kids who love them. Even the baby has held a chick.

The worst organisem on earth in aspect of being a carrier of human Pathogens is........other human being!
