I decided to start an "Incubation Hatch Record" journal back in February 2017 for my first try at incubating. I also took many photos and videos. I made a separate "Brooder Journal" as well.

Does anybody else keep records or journals? Should I add or change anything?

Please share yours.

Nice record system... I'll copy over some of mine. During the year I use a physical notebook, but at the end I digitize it and do a nice printout for my records. The first bit is what I put at the beginning of each year's book when finished, not at the beginning of every set. Batch numbers are carried over year to year.

Some of my first notes were a tad obsessive so I am using one of my more recent hatches. The letter 'Q' that keeps appearing is a checkbox that won't copy to this format. The notes by said Qs are so that I can have a general overview of each set without reading every single one of my daily records.

External pips

Day 16 – 2/14/17 – 2/15/17

5 chicks out of the 6 eggs that went into lockdown. 2 brown stripey, 2 yellow, 1 yellow and brown. They really do hatch like popcorn.

Quail Hatching Notes:

Hatch time for cots: 16–18 days

Candle about day 8 and again day 15. Same AC ratio needed as for chickens. Lockdown day 15.

Quail need to drink soon after hatch. Put stones in water; they are small and not very smart.

Temp 100*F, humidity 45%. Turn 3x+ per day.

Wow, those are some pretty extensive records.
Near the end of incubation, I was writing down the amount of water in the measuring cup needed for each Trough so that it would not spill over into the other areas. I used a small funnel to pin point where I wanted the water to go. Worked well.

I like a physical copy that I can pull off the shelf on a whim. I like to physically write things down with my own writing and remember I was there in that moment writing it down in the style of my own. I like to include photos in with my journal like a scrap book. It makes everything seem so personalized.
