Incubator humidity and temp help

I made my first homemade incubator and I cant get the humidity to stabilize, I don't have a sponge atm, ao I have a small dish with a paper towels on top, which is also the problem with themp, I got to 99, but now I cant seem to keep there. Ive had eggs ready for a couple days, and I really want to put them in the incubator, as my hens have stopped laying regularly because of heat.

Do you have a thermostat----not talking about a thermometer----without a thermostat trying to control the temp is very hard to do unless its in a room that the temp stays very even.

Humidity is up and down partly because of the paper towels----very hard to keep it close using them. You need water containers where water stays in them and does not dry out like a sponge or paper towel.

Evening if the incubator is closed and not open? Relatively, humidity in the room I have the incubator in stays around 40%, I think, and the temp at 75-83 F
So use bowls of water, not sponges?

Again do you have a thermostat? 75 to 83 degree's will change the temp inside a lot with out it.

A thermostat would be wired in line with your heat source----to cut it off and on as needed to keep the temp steady. A thermostat just checks the temp to let you know what it is. Now do you have a thermostat? And yes use some kind of containers----ever how many/size you need to get the humidity to where you need it.

What is your heat source-----a light bulb?? Does it cut on and off as needed?

Nope, don't have one, sadly, just a thing to monitor the humidity and temp.

OK, if you do not have a thermostat and you want a good hatch----you need to watch the temp every few minutes 24/7 for the entire incubation period----turning on and off the heat as needed. If you fall asleep----it might get to hot or to cold. Well I am kinda picking but I am serious-----without a thermostat----its going to be hard to control.

I have a lightbulb, and I can turn it on and off needed.
