Incubator humidity and temp help

And for the record, I'm also another "under-30%" hatcher with good hatch rates. Only time i go above 30 is for very small serama eggs, and then i still only go to about 35-38%.

I'm a new hatcher myself, but my goal temp is 99.5 and my humidity I try to keep from 30-40% (for the first 18 days) and up to 50-60% the last 3 days. I built my own incubator as well and found that a lasagna pan (you can get them for like .88 at walmart) works well for humidity and then I put a hole in the side of the incubator to run a fish air tube down to the pan so I can refill water without opening it. On top of the pan I put hardware cloth (around $5 for the shorter ones at the farm store here), but made sure it was at least an inch above the pan sure the eggs don't get water on them. On top of that, I laid cabinet liner for a better surface (again, under $1 at walmart). I found what has helped my temperature stay most consistent has been a dimmer ($8 at walmart) and an old pc fan. My temps were ALL over the place before I installed them. Now I can easily keep them consistent, and only have to check on them every once in a while. I'm still currently on my first hatch, so keep that in mind, but that's how I was able to get everything steady with a diy styrofoam incubator.

ok, i'll keep with them, and right now after leaving it and going to bed, it's down to 45%
te thermometer broke, so I have no idea what temp it is.

As for candling, they were only in there for hours, would it show anything if they died at this point?

You sure better get you another thermometer----ASAP.

Candling won't show you anything for a couple days, more like 5-6 days for an untrained eye.

just bought another one to replace the faulty one.

ok, so wait for day 6 or 7 to candle?

and from what you all guy told me, keep it around 30-40%? right now it's 45%

and I think this is my first and last DIY incubator, and after selling a goat, I have enough for a incubator without the automated turners. i'll be grabbing one of those tomorrow hopefully.

Question is, should I keep using the homemade one, or figure out the incubator and move the eggs carefully into the store bought one, would this cause problems, or would they be fine?

Move the eggs into a GOOOOOOD Store bought one. BUT Don't go buy one of them Little Giants from tractor Supply!!! No Way! Well if you do not use the built in meter on them----you might be ok.

I planned on buying one from brad's that's $40-50 without the turner, not sure what brand.

Gotta Link to it or go to it and see what the Model number and name is?

If its a Little Giant #9300, You might want to read up on them before you spend your money.
