Incubator Temperature Problems ! ! (Reptipro)

I love the chicks. I love hatching. and for the most part I love the adult birds, but there are a couple of roosters that's days are numbered.

one of these days im going to have to keep another batch of chicks for myself.

I am pretty sure I have a bunch of roosters out of the 16 that I got! I am debating on waiting to make sure and let them get a little older if I should just start trying to sell them now . I got some chicks due to hatch on the 21st and then some more on the 25th and then some the first week of July ! That is going to be a whole lot of chicks !

you can never have to many chicks though! with the temp fluctuations you had, you should have more females than males but its not an exact science.

Those are the chicks I bought a few weeks ago :) . I was wondering about the whole temperature theory and am wanting to actually try it out to see if there is any proof behind that! I would be happy if it just brought the ratio of hens to roosters up !

ive played around with the temp thing a little. it does work buy only by killing the cockerel eggs. your hatch rates will drop but you will have a higher hen ratio on hatches. my methods weren't controlled enough to be considered real proof just so you know. ive also noticed when I add sorghum to the feed I get a few more hen chicks - again not controlled enough for scientific proof.

That is something to look into though just to see ! I got some eggs going on lockdown today !!! Can't wait til Friday when they are supposed to hatch . I thought about putting them in an egg carton but I don't know if that would be a good idea because the last hatch I seen them moving around and getting in position and they would be able to roll around in the carton . Maybe if the eggs were smaller it would work out !

the carton is great for incubating shipped eggs, but not so great when hatching. most eggs do better when hatched from their sides.

So 10 eggs went on lockdown on Tuesday and we due to hatch on Friday ....Well, one hatched last night around 11 pm and now I have 2 more that have hatched and 2 that are making progress and should be out in a few hours ! Hubby also said he thinks he seen a few move around ....looks like this hatching is doing much better then the last and better percentage ! I decided to not use the bottom of the incubator and made a shelf to put the eggs on that weren't ready to hatch and that ones that were ready I put up top. The temp on top is 100 and right below it is around 99 !
