Welcome Greg!! Let us know if you have any questions! Lots of experienced hatchers here!!

:fl :fl

it should, just needs to rest :hugs good save!
Thank you, I have had others that pipped the wrong end and I didn't intervene and I lost them they just couldn't get out of shell. I don't want that to happen again and felt it was safe since it absorbed the yolk.

I only have 12 hens but 7 of them are this years pullets and 2 are White Leghorns that won't be 2 years old until spring. My 4 year old Light Brahma/White Laced Red Cornish cross quit laying for the winter about the first of November. I do not give supplemental lighting at all.

Today is lockdown for my showgirl eggs! I'm excited for these guys. I'm very thrilled with this group of eggs. There were 6 quail and 5 showgirl eggs that were shipped together. The 3 quail that developed all hatched and all 5 showgirls developed. Here's hoping they all hatch!

I have 10 Whatever "turkey" eggs in the incubator and I about 12 doze showbird eggs to go in on Tuesday.... ( with a few toads mixed in).. This should be my only hatch for a few months.

So far for the HAL I have:
3 CX eggs
1 BSL
3 BCM
4 CCL
2 silkie
4 serama
I'm sure there will be more by the set date but I'm mostly just checking fertility though I'm truely hoping these BCM eggs are fertile and pure. I need more! Bet you can tell which 2 are BCM. My pullet's first 2 eggs!

even my quail quit laying but they dont even have a window on the south side so they are pretty much in the dark most of the time

Not incubation related but I would recommend that you provide daylight lighting for your birds that are kept in the dark. It really will make them healthier. In people, severe depression can be caused by too little exposure to light and lack of the vitamin D that the body needs sunlight to produce. I am not recommending extended periods of light but if my situation were similar I would probably provide up to 8 hours daily of light produced by daylight bulbs.

there are 2 windows on the coop, its not completely dark, its just not south-sun
sorry i didnt say that well in my other post. one window is north facing and the other is east facing, but i think if they had a south facing they might actually lay some eggs

I do not give my "layer flock" or "yardbirds" supplemental light. They have a mandoor that is left open to an enclosed run to the south, A small balcony to the south with a small chicken door. Also they have a door to the covered run to the east with a chicken door.

I get few if any eggs from them this time of year. I find they sleep more and eat less, so they cost me less to have around...The advantage of having a depressed bird. :thumbsup

My breeders are indoors 100% of the time now. They have 16 hours of light a day. They lay a lot of eggs. Hopefully all fertile. They eat a lot more feed. They seem just as depressed and want me to spend time in the c old with them. That is most likely because they are or were showbirds and use to being handled.

Do you use daylight bulbs or just regular bulbs? I find that vitamin D supplement really does help relieve depression.
