I still have broodies too.![]()
I have a stubborn broody duck right now that doesn't understand that I DO NOT want any more ducks! She's been sitting on air continuously for weeks now. I can kick her out during the day but every evening, it never fails, she's right on the nest, complaining at me for taking any eggs that she managed to find![]()
Give her some silkie eggs![]()
I'm afraid to let her try to raise chicks lol. Isn't it bad for a duck raise chicks? I dunno, I might try it .I would give her one of the ones that my hens is hatching tonight but Ana is selfish and will attach it right back lol
I’ve never tried it.
But you could take the chicks away when they hatch, or even right before they hatch and finish them yourself. She’d probably be fine to leave the nest at that point.
I have just received buckeye eggs in the mail! Only slight problem is the incubator is full.... OK so the 2nd backup is not but these are too important to trust to anything but the best bator. So I am thinking of putting some of the eggs that are currently in the bator under the broody, that refuses to break, so that there will be room in the bator for the buckeye eggs..... of course the other good bator is in hatching mode with babies due tomorrow
If only... Ebony is stubborn! I let her hatch out a duckling this year even let her raise it a couple weeks before I took it to the swap. Two days later, she started fussing about sitting again. She made a nest and started laying again for a week or so then started sitting again lol.
The hatch started yesterday and I pulled 16 keets out of the hatcher this morning.
