Incubators Anonymous

:frow My name is Kirsti, and I have recently developed an addiction to hatching. It started with just wanting to see if I could hatch some of my chickens eggs, then there were some breeds I wanted that weren't available locally so I bought some shipped eggs, and that was my slippery slope to hatch-a-holic. I never should have bought an incubator . I have more chicken eggs coming at the end of this month and then some quail eggs is September. I may have also bough a second incubator...:thI really don't like having all my eggs in one basket...:lau
Next thing you know you will be building 2 new coops and still be short on room. Or 3 or 4 new coops??? Mmmm

The hatch started yesterday and I pulled 16 keets out of the hatcher this morning.

I'm up to 3 but am looking at the IncuView on Amazon. I like that you can see the entire top. Thought I was saving money by buying a used on on Facebook market because it was listed as only been used once but am finding that the temp is all over the place. Eggs are too precious to leave up to that fate! I think I got a total of 56 eggs in the last 2 weeks, cross my heart once my Blue Serama and Gold Laced Polish eggs come I am done!

Many of these problem incubators can be cured by replacing the thermostat with a digital thermostat available from many sources on eBay. Just make sure that you get one that measures and responds to 0.1°.

My broody hen want doing a very good job hatching her chicks :/ She had 2 hatch successfully but she stepped on one and killed it. 3 chicks got crushed while in mid hatch, 1 egg was infertile. She had one last egg that was peeping and about to hatch so I took it from her and gave it to my broody duck. She hatched it out fine and is so happy with her little chick now lol

I did end up taking the baby and giving it to my other broody right after these pictures. Ebony is an attentive mom but she kept going up in to the nest boxes and the baby couldn't get to her. Ana, my other broody was very happy to immediately start caring for the baby.
