It is working just fine.... that is why we PLAN AHEAD! I bought 30 egg flats for my incubator and it is funny but I use most of them by the end of the week. My wall is 12ft long. With what is in the incubator and holding eggs I don't have many left. I had 18 before.... how did I get by without the trays.
Holy crow . . . how did you ever manage on just 18 flats. . . . .
I do have 15 eggs under two broody muscovy hens-- ducklings in my future. I"m terrible at hatching duck, but love eating them. I have a BO broodie and I suddenly erealized she could be hatching something . . . the other girls just squeeze in an lay. . . .
HI! I'm new to chickens and new-ish to BYC. I am very quickly becoming addicted to everything chicken!
I would really like to try hatching some chicks of my own. Just a few. Maybe 8-10.
Is there a brand or type of incubator that is better for just a few than others?
Or would I be smart to get a bator that is a little bit bigger?
Thanks!
In all seriousness----- buy the best quality hatcher you can afford. I manage with an LG and a homemade coolerbator and do just fine. Join the Little Giant thread if you go that route. ALso, start hatching via eggs you can pick up near you. Look at criags list, someone offering chicks for sale is likely to have hatching eggs for sale. Learn how to hatch those, then progress to shipped eggs.
ANd build a lot of pens!!
