well, i put 41 eggs in lockdown (a day late) and they're all due today and tomorrow, so far i've got 1 sfh 2 mille fleur cochin and 1 blrw. many more pipped. saying prayers for the sfh, since a number of them are spoken for already. (birthday present for a friend in part).

WOO HOO! Yay for pipping chicks! I got my new incubator up to temp and went out to steal a couple of eggs from my broody, but when I lifted her up to take 2 of them, I heard chirping!

i never had a problem incubating them together, and know someone who incubates and raises his pheasants and chicks together witout issues... it's ducks i wouldn't keep with chicks because of the mess factor. incubating i don't think is an issue if you have a separate hatcher, since the time periods are different for each.
I'm hatching in the incubator because I can't afford a separate place for them to hatch yet. the ducks should be hatched and out of the bator before the pheasants go in, I just wanted to know if I need to clean the bator with more than soap & water after they hatch before I let the pheasants hatch in there :) Thank you ki4got

Absolutely clean your bator between hatches.

Some people go with strong disinfectants that are safe like Oxine

I use bleach - I wipe it out, clean it, then spray a bleach and water solution into it, keeping the surface wet for atleast 20 minutes. Then I wife out the solution, let it dry and then run for a day before sticking the next batch in. The smell wont kill the eggs but may bother you.

New incubator means I *have* to test it out and hatch something, right? Right?

So, now the question is: do I just use eggs from my current set-up, or do I make the leap I've been wanting to, and put my Wyandotte girls and mystery black hen (australorp? jersey giant?) in with my splash blue Wyandotte roo. I know I'll have to wait a couple of weeks to ensure they're *his* eggs, but I've already got my choice of chicks out of my layer coop from my hatch last week, and what is hatching at BIL's right now. Of course, doing that will involve moving my orpington roo out to another spot as well. What to do.......what to do.....
