Incubators Anonymous

I have a question that I am hoping someone can answer here...I am on day 4 of a test incubation using the dry incubating method...During the day my humidity stays right where it should, between 25-35 degrees, Sometimes it stays close to 37 all day (right now its at 36).. When I went to bed last night, I did a quick check and the humidity was at 32 and figured ok, it will be fine til morning... This morning I woke up and it was at 10 percent humidity.. This is the second time this has happened. I add about a TBSP of warm water and within thirty minutes it is right back where it needs to be.. What could be causing such a drastic drop but only at night? I candled the eggs this morning and there is very visible veining in all 10 eggs.

As a side note, My incubator is in a spare room with a space heater that keeps the room temperature at a comfortable 75 degrees. It is away from any windows and from the door.. I have both vent plugs removed.

dry incubation means adding no water at all... and it will vary some, depending on where the incubator is and what's going on in the house... doing laundry, dishes, showers, those all raise the humidity in the house some, which means the incubator will go up then back down... during the winter I average 10-15% (or less) and summer it stays 15-20% or so. to give you an idea, I just set 35 eggs in the hatcher and had 31 pop out... of the 4 that didn't hatch, 1 started to zip and quit, another is still working on it, and 2 were olive eggs I couldn't see into, so the go along for the ride, both were clear.

At first I had thought it was adding no water, but then I was told to never allow it to go below 25 and to add a bit of water here and there...... Its all very confusing I think...

It may be a lil small but any 2 wire fan should work or at the very least help circulate some air. If you canand get one from an old tower would be best. I know the computer supply store has them here for around $2. I just wired it to an old cell phone charger for power if you have one of those laying around.

computer fans come in a variety of sizes. measure the distance between the holes, in mm. that's what size fan you need.  (hubby says outside edge of fan)  but the ones in my hovabators are either 70 or 75mm fans.

Ok thanks y'all. I'll look further into it for next week. Too late this week. Lol

I'm due for lockdown at 7am tomorrow. Had a last min thing come up. So would it be better to switch them to the hatcher for lockdown early or late?

You know what time lockdown is?????? I am luck to know the day LOL

What ever works for you would be fine.... either way will work.... not CRITICAL.

Lol I set eggs at 7am every Friday morning. If I don't do it the same if never know either.
Got that thing under control without me finally, so I'm home and gonna start candling soon!!! :)

y hatcher has 2 plugs. I couldn't get the humidity up with them both out, so I put 1 in, & had to readjust the temp, but it seems better that way. Think its ok until the start hatching as long as 1 is out?
