Incubators Anonymous

Hello my name is Tracy and I am an incubating addict. After my first two attempts were totally unsuccessful my third produced 3 slikie cross chicks (maybe 4). I have come to the conclusion I need to "practice" much more. I just bought a young cockrel to make it possible to "practice" regularly

Welcome practice makes perfect and then you will end up with a brooder full of chicks

My DH is building me a cabinet incubator. To keep me out of his hair he went and got me the farm innovators pro series one. He suggested that the farm innovators one could become a hatcher once he has the cabinet incubator built.... lol

I am now searching for some turkey eggs, since DH and the one neighbor think we should try turkeys first in the new incubator. lol

BTW DH has been fussing over the incubator more than I have. Every time he comes in here he has to check the temp and the humidity and all. I am at least getting my jacket and stuff put away first.

Funny! I want a cabinet incy!!! My Hovabator is just getting too small these days! Lol

Well all 4 turkey eggs are pipped, 1 last night at 9pm with no progress, 2 this morning, & 1 this afternoon. But they are in no hurry!! And 2 chick eggs pipped this afternoon. Once they get going, they're gonna all pop out! Lol

I'm wondering if anyone has ever successfully hatched a double yoker? I have a SS right now due to hatch on the 11th and both are growing very well. I've never tried one before so thought I'd give it a shot.

Finished another incubator today that I'm going to use to hatch out a few of my many staggered hatches. This is the first I've done using a dimmer but it's holding steady. I didn't have time enough to test it for doing a complete hatch but so far it is holding enough to hatch I believe. If not I can move eggs over to my other home made bator.

This will be #4 along with 3 brooders hogging my kitchen and living room. Talk about addiction! I put my first batch of the year a few hours ago. Candled the 11 and one was fully developed but stopped sometime within the past 48 hours. Not sure why but the other 10 are holding strong. I'm hoping things go well as 6 of them are out of my BLRW and I'm so excited to see how the chicks turn out.

I can't believe it.....

i forgot that i had to put my final hatch in off schedule so tonight i went to
put the eggs on lockdown and instead i found 14 chicks.... they had all
hatched in the turner at low humidity, thank goodness they are all in
great shape..

chicks are alot tougher than we think!!

I hate it when that happens.....

I put those odd hatch days on my calendar or I would forget them..... still do sometimes.

My last hatch in the new hatcher had more shrink wrapping.. I only lost one but I have another one that is iffy. I did have to help more this round. I think I have a way to up the humidity but it is short lived and really sucks the water up. I may have to have more trays of water in each drawer.

I can't wait to check this next batch of eggs. I have my CCL with the new roo and some from CJWaldon in there too.... some White Breese too... more eggs coming..... what am I doing!?!?!?!?!? I am selling chickens as fast as I can..... so I can cut the egg production DOWN to manageable numbers.
