Incubators Anonymous

Someone who bought 12 eggs from me (I sent 15), reported back 11 healthy hatched chicks! Not bad for shipped eggs!

I always look at 50% hatch on shipped egg's as good ......

400

So the final count from the incubator is 5/8.. Not bad odds for using a reptile incubator and messing up a lot! ( yo-yo humidity and a couple of temp spikes..)The last 2 babies (in the pic) seem a little weaker then the first 3 so I'm going to raise them inside for a bit before trying to give them to my broody. I'm afraid if I put then with her now that they could get trampled...

Broody did accept the other 3 babies to add to the 9 that she hatched out..

Hello. My name is Lizz and I'm a new arrival in the Incubators Anonymous group. I'm only on my second batch in the incubator, but I'm planning MANY more to come. In fact, I've begun collecting eggs for my next set which will be after this batch hatches. The current batch is due to hatch around Tuesday (that's day 21). I started this batch with 20 eggs and am down to 6. :( I really need to work out kinks in my process as I'm determined next time to get over a 50% hatch!

Hello, I am Lucy,
I have a question for you fine folks.
Up until now I have used a broody but recently i built my own incubator, my eggs are on day 17 right now. My eggs are in a cardboard egg carton that I turn manually. Should I take them out if it and last them on the screen in the bottom of the incubator for the last days or leave them in the carton to hatch?

Hi Lizz. I'm on my second hatch too but my husband banned me from more hatching but we'll see (I think he said that last time). I had a 90% hatch rate my first hatch which was really shocking so I've thought a lot of what made it so successful. I think for me having the incubator in my room where I can keep a constant eye has helped and local eggs from people who are really good about giving only good eggs helped. I have a farm innovators incubator with no fan or turner so it's definitely not the incubator. And the temp and humidity is all over the place but nothing extreme. I aim for 40% humidity and 101° temp. Welcome and good luck

personally, I hatch in egg crates. I find the chicks don't roll the unhatched eggs around as badly that way.
