Incubators Anonymous

Not me....I hide, hide, hide!   My husband says "how many eggs to you have in the incubator now" and I say, I'm not sure, but only half will hatch, and half of those will be roosters, so it's not as many as it looks like!  I have actually said to him;  "Don't talk about my chickens to people!  It's PRIVATE!!"

Now, THAT"S a sickness!!

Sounds like me and my wife lol.

Here are some of her First of July chicks ......

First egg to hatch was 2 July 2014
jumpy.gif

This is the mass of egg's she was sitting on and yes others
would come in and give her more overtime ......

3 July she hatched out more ...

4 July the egg's just keep hatching ...

4 July I had to put feed and water in the nesting area as the chicks
were all over the place and were a hand full for her ....

As you can see her first hatch was becoming overwhelming
for her so I removed the rest of the egg's and put them into
the incubator to finish off the hatching for her ....

But she decided it was time to get a bigger home with some
room to move around in ....

Kids will clime all over ya if you let them .....

So I just so happened to have some Marans chicks coming
in and she took them also .....

This was her new home for three more weeks so with her
hatching and my finishing and the new chicks she raised
30 chicks on her first run then started producing more egg's
during the forth week of raising the chicks and off she went
to start her next bunch ......

26 eggs in the bator due a week from Saturday! Candled on day 8 & only 13 look viable. They r shipped from Cali to Ky though, so I'm ok with that. Will re candle in a few days b4 I toss anything.
Have a "natural bator" outside due Saturday! Started with 16, on day 10 candle 6 were infertile or early quitters. Then she stepped on 1, so 9 left so far! Going to do 1 last candle today! LOVE watching momma raising babies!!!

:hugs
Start treating them with Corid right away.
Maybe you could offer the man to take a couple of extras (just in case) and give him ready made Corid water to take with the chicks (just in case) and...IDK...maybe that's irresponsible (or genius)...I'm not a good judge of that stuff.....
I'm sorry!

When he came I explain Cocci and how it works and that they should be fine if treated with Corrid, plus threw in a freebie it was only the youngest of the groups, which was 2 that he got. All the older ones should be fine, unless they have issues with switching homes of course. He seemed to understand and knows what to watch for in the others. It actually turned out well because he was completely unaware of how each property could have strains that any chicken he purchased from anywhere could be susceptible too, so he was happy to learn something new! :)

I'm always learning new stuff with the birds. I would've never thought things could be so complicated sometimes! In the other hand 90% of the time it's so simple how can you not have chickens?
