Congrats on the new chicks so far.

You should try being chick police in a classroom while hatching! :ya Honestly, they're not so bad in a school setting.  My own children have a more liberal interpretation of following the rules at home.  Of course my daughter & I are the hatch-a-holics & get raccoon-eyed.

Lol I understand... Chicks are hatching now in a preschool class!

Last night I went toned and figured they could just hang out in the bator til I woke up. Got up at 4 this morning and I had 5 dry chicks running round wrecking shop so I move em to the brooder. At 630 everyone else gets up and sees no chicks in the bator and goes nuts until they look in the brooder and realize I'd moved em. Got 3 Cochins with one egg hatching now. One barred rock. The rest are going to be 3 way cross mutts. They are out of barred rock hens and a cross roo. Good practice anyways.

I have a question, I am after an incubator for hatching and have been offered a Hovabator 1584A with no turner. I have also been offered a Lab Oven that can also be used as a hatcher. If you were in my shoes what would you go for and how reliable are the Hovabators? I have heard lots of good things about them but also have heard they can fluctuate in temp also.
Thanks in advance

I bought this incubator in 1997 and use it every year and this
year alone I hatched two geese and 20 ducks as well as over
100 chicken egg's .....

The turner is so very much needed as opening the top three
times a day cools off incubator .......

most of the tricks are to keep the room the incubator is in at one temp 24 hours a day and the humidity in the correct range and incubating is an art and record keeping is a must as you will do thing different in the winter then the summer and also where you live really makes a huge difference so what ever you get, practice will really tell if you are a hatcher or not... the incubator cheap or expensive only makes the difference if you show it some love and attention ......
