Indian Runner/Pekin duck eggs due to hatch--what feed do I use?

Hi there!

Well, my little Indian Runner has been faithfully nesting a dozen duck eggs (pekin or runner) for 28-30 days now. This is the first morning she has been off her nest, so I suspect it maybe a duckie birthday! What type of feed should I be using for baby ducklings?

Two years ago I had some khaki baby ducklings from a hatchery that died from "new duck" disease. The feed store said I should use medicated feed because this happens often with new ducks (?) Is this accurate information? I read somewhere that chicken starter feed is not good to use with ducklings. So what kind of feed should I start with when they start hatching?

Thanks for any help out there!

You can use an all flock raiser crumble or use a chick started that isn't medicated.

The crumbles are small enough for them to eat and mom will show them where it is. She can eat it as well, though I'm not sure how long you'd want to leave an adult duck on chick starter. The flock raiser is good for their entire life.

Thanks all for your help. Looks like none of the ducky eggs were fertile, but my Runner is still faithfully sitting on her nest (the chickens now keep depositing eggs for her to hatch....lol
