Beautiful Runners Walt. I can't tell from the pics. Are they Blacks or Chocolate? Beautiful either way. Good looking birds!

Thanks. They are blacks, but last season I had a chocolate pop out of the blacks. I have been raising these two colors since 1974 and have never had anything but black come out of the blacks. It is a female, so I will breed her back to the blacks and see what I get. I will toe punch them so I know who the offspring are. I have raised most of the colors, but I like the long necks of the blacks and whites.

Some time in the future I plan on getting some Blacks or Chocolates. Going to work on the Fawn and Whites for a bit 1st I think though.

Holderread Waterfowl in Corvallis OR ships ducklings in just about every color and their birds are gorgeous. They have a web site now, so you can check them out.
He sells fawn and white for $5.50 each as ducklings.

Stunning runners Walt.
Not sure about the toe punching though.

I understand your concern, but right out of the bator they don't flinch or bleed. I would not do it anytime after that, because it does bother them and it does bleed.. I don't have to do it with the main flock, it is just this one mating that I have to have a permanent mark so that I know where the chocolate colored birds are.

Here is a female white runner posing for the camera. If they didn't trust me, they wouldn't do this kind of thing.

My runner ducks have a 4 or 5' baby pool that I fill everday for them with fresh water. Mine are 3 months old and because I didn't introduce the pool to them sooner ( only 2 weeks ago) they havn't figured out how to get in to swim yet. They seem to like drinking the pool water more then from their waterer. I look forward to seeing them swim soon, hopefully.

She is lovely. Not sure they have good memories though. Not judging your methods, but i would use leg rings. I always feel sorry for cattle and sheep with ear tags, but then i am a total softy!

The spirals are dangerous......not sure if that was what you are talking about. The ones that are dangerous are the spiral rings that are round plastic ...not the flat plastic with numbers on them. They are sharp on the ends of the spiral and can dig into the birds leg. Cable ties work and are not as dangerous, but you have to keep changing them as the bird grows or they can hurt the leg as well.
