well if i go i might bring some teenage and baby Swedish ducks but im not for sure if i will be able to attend because i might have a teen leadership academy conference to go to that weekend that is the tenative weekend (i think) so i might not be able to attend but its still a possiblity though. If you are interested in them i will try to bring some if i have any, i have show and breeder stock in them. there are pictures on my website i know you said that you are interested in runners but swedish are more rare and beautiful IMO just let me know god knows what ill have in august.

Actually, I do like Swedish. I think they are beautiful. I might be interested in some. I currently have a Mallard pair that I love. My only concern with them is that they could fly off and I'd lose them forever. I am planning to buy a kennel and put a screening over the top so they can't escape. If I can do that, I'll be more interested in flying breeds of duck. Then I can get a Pekin, which is what I would really love to have. My Mallards scared me when they figured out how to fly as I had them free ranging in my yard and I was afraid they would take off, but all I had to do was very firmly yell the female's name (Marion), and she would fly around the yard and land right back by the coop. And wherever she went, her mate Jesse went. But I love those silly birds. For Mallards, they are surprisingly tame and I'd miss them so much if they flew away and didn't come back. I have a personal relationship with each of my birds. I want them to know I love them, and care about them. Ducks included. I think it makes for a nicer bird. Once I have the kennel set up, I'll update you here. I know my older daughter and I were discussing Swedish. We both like them. How much do you think you'll be asking for them?

Well swedes dont fly and i dont have any yet so price is well ? so i guess ill see what they do at shows this spring and summer and ill go from there but nothing outrageous because i want to price them for what i would like to pay and what i think they are worth combined you know what i mean?? but swedes are so sweet i just love them, they are the ones the crowd around your feet and greet you... they are great but i hope you want some, i hope i have some, and i hope i can come and dont have leadership that weekend!!

They don't fly? Awesome! I like the idea of a friendly duck. Don't get me wrong, I love my Mallards, but affectionate they are not. They are, at best, tolerant of people. If your birds are reasonably priced, I will probably go for them instead of Runners. (I like the Swede's colors better anyway!). I do hope you can come.

Ok, I think I have caught the list up, I have add everyone who thinks they may come just in case. Just let me know later on how many and what if anything you might bring!

I discussed it with the kids, and if you are coming, we want your Swedish ducks, provided you have them. We'd like babies if possible, so we can interact with them as much as possible while they are still small and impressionable.

*Schultz- My daughter said she will make Snickerdoodle cookies to bring. I'll see what I can find to donate to the raffle. This year I definitely intend to take part in the raffle!!! We'll have more food to bring too. Dunno if there is a market for it or not, but my mom makes and sells hand crocheted Barbie clothes, if anyone is interested. She'll bring some, and she is REALLY fast, so she might be able to make a few dresses on demand right there and then. I'll have to ask her. She has completely clothed all my kids dolls, and her clothes last because my kids dress their dolls in some of the clothes she made for my dolls when I was a little girl. We could probably make some crocheted pot holders to bring also to sell. My mom's main hobby is crocheting. I'm not nearly as good as her, I can only go in a straight line, lol, which means I can make blankets and scarves, and that's it! Oh, and pot holders! If anyone might be interested, we'll bring some doll dresses to sell, and extra yarn too to make some. Oh, and we might bring some homemade dog biscuits too. I know there won't be dogs there, but I'm sure lots of us own dogs that would like a yummy treat. We just found a yummy new recipe and my dogs LOVE them. My cats like them too!

I was wondering, will anyone be bringing any chicken eggs this year? Fertile ones, I mean. Last year it seemed that only quail, Guinea, and Turkey eggs were brought. I don't know yet what I will have as far as eggs go, but the way my girls are picking up on their laying, I might have mixed layer eggs to bring. I'll know closer to August as I am still checking fertility. I'll have to see what else we can bring, and get back to you later. I know I am excited, and so are my kids!

Hey I just had an idea about the Raffle this year..
I was thinking that maybe we should have a seperate jar for each item being raffled or if its like 2/3 of the same thing then one jar and draw out 2/3 tickets.. I know most folks were happy with what they got last year but this way if you dont want hatching eggs then you dont have to get any.. Plus if there is something oyu reall want then you can put al your tickets in that jar.. Then after all the other items are gone combine all remaining tickets together and raffle them off seperatly.

The only problem I see is if someone gets offended because there item didnt get any tickets.. I dont see this happening as everyone seemed to love all the raffle items last year.. But atleast this way those who do want eggs have a better chance and those who dont, dont have to worry about getting any.. Just a thought what do you all think??

I go to caged bird shows, and that's how it's done there--seems to work out okay. I don't remember how it was done last year. When I went to the central Ky Chickenstock, the first winner drawn chose a prize, then the 2nd, etc.
However we do it will be fun.

Other then wolf lake swap, when are some other ones? Ive been looking for SQ black bantam cochins, and no one wants to sell eggs, and I dont feel like paying $100 plus the cost of a pair of adult to ship them to me. And I could wait it out until fall... but Im inpatient and want them now.

I don't think anyone had any at last year's chickenstock, but I didn't get a chance to see everything that everyone brought. I'll have black bantam cochins, but not sure when. My birds aren't laying at the moment. None of my bantams are, only my LF are. I know that doesn't help, but I'll keep my ear to the ground and see who has chicks or adult birds here in Indy that are available.

Or maybe a hybrid of those ideas...... Like all the hatching egg entries in one pot, and the other misc. items in another pot. So if you want eggs you can enter the egg drawing, if you don't, you can enter the other.... And then when things are drawn you could take your pick of the options.....

I dunno..... I didn't stay for the drawings and stuff last year, I just bought some silkies and ran. lol

I go to cagebird shows too. Woot! lol Do you go to the CICBC ones? I go to those, and to the Southern Ohio Bird Fairs, when they've been in New Albany... And they are having one in Greenwood March 7th.
