Especially right before a meetup!

I hope you find your missing birds!

I'm waiting till dark for mine to roost till I go looking for the ones that aren't chicks. Luckily I don't think any of them have "flown the coop" yet.

Unfortunately the heat took out a coop full of silkies Wednesday while I was at work.

All I can do is incubate the eggs left behind from those wonderful darlings.

I hate to hear that--it's so upsetting when that happens.

I've lost 2 peahens and a peacock in the last 2 weeks from the heat. The silly things come into the building instead of staying out in the shade where there's a bit of air movement.

I can take it I have a few BW Quail that I can pen her with

Ok thank you! I don't know if it was her or not but one of my coturnix hens was bleeding and bald.. and the BW hen took a real interest in her.

Might be looking for another hen (maybe)

I'm getting excited!

We've rounded up the birds and got them in their crates for the AM. Looks like we'll be bringing a really handsome Bantum Buckeye roo as well. He's not playing nicely with our D'Uccle roo, and Ducky is a favorite so he wins in the "One of you has to go" game.

Also, I sure hope it won't be a problem, but the pasta salad didn't get made - my day got waaaaay away from me, so I will bring cookies instead - cookies are better than pasta salad anyway

Thanks everyone. No, didn't find the missing birds. Looks like two Silkie chicks are gone, a couple of Speckled Sussex, a couple of Marans, some of my older daughter's mixed chicks, and a few others. Found out tonight that my neighbors across the street had someone break into their house recently. Like earlier this week. They think it was the same person that I am suspecting of taking my birds. I'm upset, I raised these birds and I've lost enough of them to heat as it is. Stupid heat here has been awful and my birds refused to do anything but drink when they days were getting into the 90's and the coop was up over 100, and now that it's cooling down they are finally up and eating and not hiding, and it's now that I'm noticing just how many I'm missing. Glad they didn't take the little White Cochin cockerel that I'm bringing to sell. He's darn near perfect and while I'm not expert on show quality (at least, not yet!), I believe he's darn close. He's so beautiful, and I'm glad they thieves didn't snag him. I'm also glad they didn't take all my Marans. I've boxed up everyone for tomorrow, I still have more to do in the morning, but man am I exhausted! My ride will be here real early, so hopefully we get to Shultz's house early! Yay! I've waited all year for chickenstock, I can't wait!!!!

I have 7 coturnix hens and 1 roo and then 1 BW hen I believe. I got them from Coopcrazy about a month ago or so and they have been fine. They have a wooden board to get on if they want to and then a box they can go into if they need to lay and they sleep in there (most of the time). And they have their dusting dish which they get into to.

She seems fine but doesn't want to drink or anything. She's still a fighter if I hold her for to long.
Heres my quail coop if you want to see it:

She probably got her toe caught in the wire, if something tried to get her, she wouldn't have a toe left

But her head is definitely from the other quail, the beak is most likely from the bobwhite (they'll pick anything that is bleeding, usually on the top of the beak), and the head is from the coturnix. That's what they do, could be the male or the females. I've had some scalped birds, and usually it was the females that did the scalping like that.

Do you mean another BW hen? You do know it's illegal to own them without a permit, right?

The BW is the only one that kept trying to get at her head. They others are fine with her.
ETA: A coturnix hen to add..
