INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Mine are 4-inch side up. This is what I more commonly see advised, but I suppose it depends on your situation. For me, I have a hen with some toes curled and when she grips a perch, her curled toes poke right into the backs of her legs, so she needed a flat perch to prevent that from happening.

I agree. Also the 4" side up helps to keep their feet warm in winter.

I am well over a hundred posts behind, just wanted to say hi super fast...

In the midst of my hog/turkey/chicken/lawnmower swapping today... Sugar has blessed me with a tiny doeling!
Please forgive my crappy quality pics, I used my cell phone!!!
First steps!

I heard sugar making panic bleating noises and RAN!
What a shock, I suspected she was pregnant but WOW!
She was up and walking minutes after birth.
Scared me to death, she was stuck, had to push her back to get her shoulders thru!
1 hoof and her nose through, and poor baby was gasping, cleared her nose and mouth right away.

I set up a heat lamp (secured!) and made a draft free nest with hay bales. Momma and baby are doing well tonight!
My first (goat) kid ever, Sugars first also. So very proud, she is a natural momma.

Baby goats are so much fun--congratulations!

These little ladies came to talk to me on the porch this afternoon. Came up and just started chattering away. The one on the right came with the sebrights but I think she must be a cross of some sort. Her markings aren't quite right.
Ha! I love when my chickens talk to me it is so cute. My brown leghorns never shut up, they talk my ear off the whole time i'm out with them.

Another one from Indiana, I don't have any chickens yet but need some so what is one of the best layers to get, and where to get them.

Hi and welcome! If you are wanting chickens for eggs, red sex links. I dont have any but I have had tons of people tell me they are egg laying machienes. I think just about every hatchery has them and they usually have some at rural king and tsc in spring.
