jchny/Janet~I just noticed you on online at it's going on 4:00am YOUR time zone. You need to get some sleep you poor thing!! I'm going to bed now since it's early here. (Luckily my DH lets the chickens out at 6:30am)

I plan to make the journey. The 3 1/2 mile trip will be grueling, but with my pioneer spirit, I think I will make it.
Leahs Mom~ For some reason, maybe it's from using a Mac (or maybe it's my own incompetency), but when I've tried that before, all that shows up is this: What works best for me is to open two windows of the Indiana Thread. I use one window to read posts and use the second one to quote/comment. The reason I do it this way is because when I've just had one window open and have posted a reply, when I switched pages my reply was erased, which is very frustrating. I've also found that it works best for me to read through posts, and then go back and start over again to post. Since the thread moves so fast, oftentimes there is more input about the original post. This explanation is probably as clear as mud. [rule]Pipd, I'm glad Margaret was accepted by the gang. My bantam Bonbon would be fine with the Big Hens since she has no fear, but poor Adeline is so afraid, so I'm still having the two orps stay on one side of the coop at night although I've opened the partition a little. DH says that in the morning Bonbon is walking around with the Big Hens while Adeline hides behind the partition. You never know what to expect with crazy chickens! [rule]EmSteele~ You're probably stressing your hens by pacing back and forth by their nesting boxes. haha The day you don't look is the day they will lay. I looked up the details for Connersville to post. Is this what you were referring to, jchnyJanet?

I just started raising chickens this spring. I have 6 older already laying hens, 1 Rooster and 6 younger hens just getting ready to start laying. I live in Solsberry, Indiana about 8 miles from Bloomington.
So far behind on posts! And I see great pics that I want to comment on, but by the time I get to the end of the posts, I've forgotten which ones.
Question about the feedlot panels: In the past I've bought some at TSC and had them cut them for me to make smaller pens. Last fall I bought several used ones from a farmer, thinking I could do the same. I have the same size bolt cutter that TSC used but can't get through the wire. Any suggestions? Maybe it's just my poor upper body strength!
On attaching them, I use hog ringers. They hold up well and can be pried apart or cut when needed, and there aren't the sharp ends that could be there with wire. For a gate, the hog rings allow the panel to swing easily.
I have a hard time with them too, I get the wire far back in the jaws. sometimes takes a couple tries. My hands are terrible when its humid and I can't hardly make cuts, ugh. Good idea on the rings! I need to fix a door on my quail pen.
ATTN: We have decided to update the members list to note if a member also breeds (or plans to breed) their birds. We are still discussing if it will be an added column or color coded (everyone is yellow right now, but say if you breed your rows will be say blue instead). We figured this would be a quick and easy way to find a local breeder for a breeder a member maybe interested in. Im always very open to opinions and ideas on how we can make it better.
So if you currently breed or plan to breed any of the birds in your flock, please send me a pm. Once we figure out how we are going to note who is breeding what, we will update the members list.
To any member not currently on the list and would like to be, please send me a pm with username, county, city (if you want), species, breed, variety, and LF or bantam. I will update the information asap. If you are on the list but have outdated info, also send me a pm with the changes. Id rather be flooded with pm's to update info than have a members list is inaccurate info.
Someone back there commented on forgetting what they wanted to comment on before they got to the end of reading. You may already know this, but I'll post it just in case you don't...
-As you're reading and find something you want to comment on, click on the "multi" button down on the bottom right (next to the thumbs up).
-Keep on reading and as you find more things you want to comment on, click the "multi" button on each successive thing you want to comment on.
-When you get to the end, click on "Post a Reply". Its on the far LEFT at the bottom of the last posted window.
All of the things you wanted to comment on will now be in the reply window and you can go through and make comments on each one.
