INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

May have some question later on Olive eggers.. one of my EE's is currently laying an 'army green/ dirty green' style egg, like to know thoughts on that.
Soldiers call it O.D. Olive Drab.

You have camouflage eggs. Don't drop one in the grass, you'll never find it.

M2H I have plenty of fertile eggs. lol. I am just not sure if I should allow her to hatch so young. or so late in the year. any advice from anyone would be awesome. As I have to either start breaking her tomorrow, or let her hatch the silkie eggs in the large fowl coop. she is young. I debt want to hurt her devlopment by letting her brood. Unless you want some of Gus' sl/w babies. They lay fertilized eggs everyday.

Leahs Mom~ I've read that many people use plastic shopping bags to put over their shoes and secure with a rubber band. They can be changed each time before a person enters a new coop stop. I may go to both events since I have a daughter in Bloomington and one in Indy. I'll tell DH that we need to visit our daughters and then I'll say, "Oh look, there's a chicken event here. How lucky!"

LOL! too funny!

I thought about that. 'Hey, let's go to Bloomington tomorrow. Oh, no reason, it's just a fun town.' I'd get the hairy eyeball for sure. I decided to just 'fess up and admit I wanted to feed my addiction. Although, for some reason, I didn't mention it was possible to BUY chickens there....not just look at all the pretty feathers. Think he'll notice the carrier in the back?

Weather can mess with egg production pretty good.

It is not a painful thing for the hen. At this point it is what I would recommend. Since the hen has been broody for almost a month already I'm not sure it would last another month. From what I have read they eat and drink less when they are broody and it can be hard on the hen to be broody for too long. But using fertile eggs at the beginning of a hen going broody is the more natural approach.

I have a timer I got last year during the Christmas specials from Target. Anyone know a great place to get a replacement one this time of the year?

These are excellent timers. Battery backup for power failure. I have used one to turn on and off 640 watt aquarium lights for the last 6 years. It still works.

Intuitive programming. You don't have to have the instruction sheet at hand to change it.

I'll take a couple; delivered, of course

I'll do my best. Maybe be using my broody cochin instead of the incubator lol. Apparently she thinks her calling is brooding and not laying at 6 months old.

I saw you said you have aquariums. I don't suppose you have any use for Kenyi cichlids or an 10 in or 13 inch pleco? We have a 50 gallon I am thinking of getting rid of, but I would like to find homes for the fish.

Looks like one of my girls.

Leah's Mom-- Love her look! Its hard to believe she will change that much more even! Thanks for showing me :) Today was the really the first day I have seen her comb start to get red...on another note, poor Penny/Penguin got attacked by my Splash BLRW roo this morning- at least I'm sure she would claim it so. I was reaching in to grab their food container and told Frick, the roo "no" about pecking/biting me and instead he tries to mount her. She was squawking at him as I walked away.

It is very light. Ill take a pic tonight.

Here is my most recent hatch. 5 legbars and 1 sfh.

Thank you Brad! Love it :) He/she can come live here if they play nice...

I'll be going to Tour de coops! My husband and I have biked it every year.
Most of coop owners do take precautions. The event does have predecessors in other states. So, I'd hope the host, Nap Town Chickens, has discussed concerns and risks with the coop participants.
Anyways, it's a blast! The yards are beautiful, the coops vary from home to home and the people are very gracious. I'd highly recommend it.
REALLY wanted to come but I can't :(
