INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

How cute is she!! I just talked to the breeder. The original silkies for my lie come from Harvest Breeze in crawfordsville. She said she has seen it before and it will correct itself. I feel a bit better. It is such a cute little one. I hate losing them! Is that chicken liver?? Little cannibal.

thy are canibals lol. I dont know if that is chicken liver, but i was going to a show and has sime chickens in a crate with me. I ate at mcdonalds and had a left over chick nughest i ripped it half and sure ensough they ate it. And wanted more.

It's a piece of beef liver. I pick up beef liver, cut it into small pieces and freeze it in small bags in the freezer. Then I thaw them and feed it to the whole flock from time to time. They also get ground meat a couple times a week - more during the summer.

They go NUTS over any meat they can get their beaks on. (Contrary to the insane thought that chickens are vegetarian... chickens fed a vegetarian diet and unhealthy chickens...they aren't designed to thrive on a veg only diet.)

hatcheries start getting a lot if orders during march but some ship all year round. Only 2 hatcheries i know of have true ameraucanas and i have eard so many bad reviews it is not even funny. You will be etting easter eggers from almost any hatchery. Order from a breeder if you want true ameraucanas or araucanas. The ameraucana thread should be in my signature. there is also a araucana thread but its not in my link
Thanks for the information. I was planning on getting my chicks from one of the breeders here in Indiana and not one of the big commercial hatcheries. So mid March is a good starting time for chicks in central Indiana?

Raw.

I will cook for chickens when I see a hen cooking food for her chicks

Seriously, though, all the meat they find in a natural setting is raw and that's they way they're designed to eat it.

Well, my BO is sitting. Yesterday I gave her two EE mix eggs (I believe the roo is my silkie but could be my frizzle as he has started, um, mingling with the ladies recently) and one I THINK pure silkie egg. I don't know how many of her own eggs she has. Can't be more than one or two as I had been collecting them until she refused to get up. Her chicks will be BO and Buff Brahma cross. Quite possibly the most laid back cross known to man. lol

BARB S - These are some of the German New Hampshires that won awards in California. Aren't their colors gorgeous? They look like sunsets! And the female is nearly as bright as the male! When Bradselig sees them, he'll swap the Heirloom BRs for your GermanNHs!

The main thing is the judges are seeing them....and liking them! These two are offspring from birds I got indirectly from Kathy Bonham last year. The main thing is that the parents are producing better than they are.....by quite a bit in the case of the male I'm using.

These don't really show the birds well so, I will try to get pictures without bars. He kept moving every time I tried to get a picture.

They are absolutely gorgeous. Can't wait till spring.

I am no expert since this has been my first year, But something I ran into when i got my chicks this past april is the outside temp.. I am not sure what your set up is, but I kept mine in a 4'x4' box in the house until it was warm outside for them. The longer they are in the house the more of a pain they are to clean up after. 6 week old peeps make more of a mess then 6 day old peeps and smell worse also... 32 peeps in the house at 6-7 weeks old is not so great. At that point my wifey says cold or not your all going outside now......
