This is my artist daughter Meredith who lives in Indy and some photos she took to humiliate the pets.
When ten of our family members were seated around a large table for Christmas dinner, Meredith said, "This isn't really a Christmas dinner-- this is an intervention. It's about your chicken obsession." LOL! I think she watched that Intervention TV series too much.

I am excited to say I have a new layer in the egg coop! This is almost a white/cream egg its so light.
I have no white layers, so this is a big change, and pretty too!
Nice little pullet egg 2 days in a row. I strongly suspect its my Chippy girl, she was one of my first hens from BR/GLW crosses.
Up til June, every last one were ROOs!
I love the mix tho, the boys are all barred, and the girls are black and all have the wyandotte comb. (sexlinked)
Roos grow up huge, and all are very friendly.
Met with Dads Dr on Christmas eve. They think they will have a valve as early as January.
Kind of glad I stopped hatching for now, in case he does have the surgery that soon.
I had considered setting my OEGB, Diana's eggs, she is giving me one every day, as well as the Sebright, Fergie.
Found a clutch of 9 eggs cleaning today, hidden behind a nest box on the floor...
maybe my silkie Fluff has started too? She is over 6 months now.
I may go ahead and set them, DD really wants to hatch more.. I may just let her do it

jchny~ Wow, that's fast service for your Dad. I'm sure it will be a relief for all of you to get that surgery behind you.
That is interesting about the BR/GLW crosses. Just wondering for example if you sold a roo, would you say it's a BR or a cross?
Bantam Eggs: I hard-boiled some of my hens' eggs yesterday, even Bonbon's bantam ones. They were perfect. People talk about feeding bantam eggs to their flock, but hers are about the size of a small egg, so they made a nice snack!
Alpaca Yarn ~ I thought of kabhyper, Peaceful Walls, and other members when I turned on the TV right in time for the Science channel's "How It's Made" series, which was about making alpaca yarn. Very interesting. I didn't realize that their fiber is hypoallergenic.

One of my goals for this winter is to learn how to process all the bags of fiber I have in the basement from our first shearings this past spring. Renae45 showed us how she processes hers into beautiful yarn (and also showed the kids how to needle felt it, which they loved!) when we visited her. So I have a general idea, but I just need to spend some serious time actually learning now!

When the kids were young and had Pioneer Days field trips, I saw the process done to sheep wool. Since Alpacas don't have lanolin, their fiber seems a little easier to deal with.
