INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Quote: For my purposes in finding a sitter willing to come to my house:
Ina May would be a familiar name and not in a bad light.
Homesteading and farming would not be things of the past but normal healthy choices.
Animals including chickens and chicks would not be only thought of as stink makers needing to be cleared off of the property.
A running chicken would not be a cause to take cover as in an alien attack.
Clutter would not be a reason to freak out and start trying to get the house in perfect selling order.

Of course I would have other requirements too, like good with toddlers, not scared of cotton diapers, ....

But my three biggest issues right now with finding someone willing to come here is the chicks downstairs/ the chickens outside, chicken related clutter, and the cotton diapers.

I have full info for new members below. Ardizzone7 ~ Welcome to the Indiana Thread! Please see info below. About the Indiana Thread~ To participate on the Indiana Thread, we ask that you follow byc.com's rules for family-friendly posts. We have members of all ages. Our thread is known for being very active, and our members are supportive, respectful of others' opinions, interesting, and fun! Please post messages and photos as often as you like! Posts are not limited to the topic of chickens. There is no such thing as a "dumb" question! We have members with different experience levels in a variety of interests. Whatever your questions may be, we should have members who can help. Do you want to be listed on the BYC Indiana Members’ List? “Being a member of this thread” just means adding your screen name and flock info, which can be helpful because the list is a spreadsheet format that lets you sort the list by breed, county, or other category. It’s an easy way to find other members who have the same breed you have or who live in a nearby county, etc.

Click on the link below my signature to view the list. Just look at the bottom of the list page for sorting options. If you’d like to be added, send me a PM (personal message) by simply placing your cursor over my screen name: Mother2Hens, and you will see “Send a PM.” A personal message ensures that your info is added. Please send your screen name, county, and city. Also include the following information about each member of your flock: List each species (chicken, duck, etc.), breed (Barred Rock, Blue Cochin, etc.), is it a LF (Large Fowl) or Bantam? If you breed, please include the species. bradselig actually adds the info, so you can PM him directly, too-- whatever is the easiest for you. if you have any questions about this thread, please PM Jchny2000 (Janet) who is the founder (thread starter) of this group.

Indiana County Map for instant member location/Avatars If anyone would like a map of your county, like the one on my avatar, I will be happy to provide one. If someone wants a combo map and a chicken or an animal for your avatar, I can put that together for you, just PM me. When I read posts, many times I think “Now where are they from?” I look at the city and still have no idea what part of the state they’re from. The map icon with the county in red because you could quickly glance and see where the member who is posting is from. These avatars are not required-- they are just a free service if you’re interested.

AVATAR UPDATES If members would like me to change the photo(s) on their avatars, just PM me. Someone might have a picture of a chick that has grown into a hen (or a roo!) and would like to update the photo or someone might like something totally different.

Thanks for all the info. I will do all that tonight. I agree with the maps. There are so many tiny towns in Indiana! It is hard to know where anyone is.

I'm so excited! If you guys remember I had a complaint on eggs I sold on eBay. Buyer filed a claim against me stating that it was my fault the eggs arrived frozen (well that's after blaming me for not packaging it how she wanted even though she never told me how to pack and they arrived still in tact, then blamed me for not requesting hold for pickup even though she didn't ask me to request it nor did she give me her phone number, etc). I just received an email from paypal stating that they have closed the complaint and "ruled" in my favor! Yes it was only over $25, but it's the principle of it! Hmm, now what to do with the money? I was expecting them to rule in the buyers favor as it seems like they always do. Now I need to try and get her negative feedback taken off.

What are all of you planning for the super cold monday and tuesday next week? We are thinking of putting our chickens in the barn. High of 1 Tuesday low -14 tuesday night. I think it's a bit cold for an unheated coop.

We were just looking at the forecast - Yikes! My daughter & I are heading down to the sewing machines right now to make a pile of chicken aprons!

Thank you very much! This is great info. I'm still getting use to this sight. I'm pretty excited about the Jersey Giants because I'm finding that I may be the only one in the area with any number of them. Once I get set up that is :).

I have "chicken friends" in Minnesota and WI that are regularly in the -30s. Crazy!

None of them seem to worry unless it's going below that. I think you'll be fine as long as you don't have a wind blowing through your hen house. They likely won't go outside and just stay inside out of the wind.

I'm not sure what to do! Probably move the ones in doghouses to the garage and add heat lamp to the silkie and main coops.

I did see someone on Craigslist selling "show quaility" pairs or trios in the north manchester area if I remember correctly.
