I wish you did too DH really loved Big Man, although he wont say so I seen how upset he was when Big Man drove away. and he is already wanting me to find another that would be able to go out in may, or maybe a grown one latter in the year. Told him I wanted a coop for cochin's first as he is too big for the hens I want so he will have to have his own Cochin hens... He sat at the table and started drawing...Thanks, I am pretty sad about the hens Chick Rookie took, they were great girls and lived lives too short but this stuff happens. At the end of the day they are livestock and as such are outside of our watchful eye for most of their lives. We can only do the best we can do and a lot is outside of our control. After some more research I think it unlikely my flock is the source. I had had them all for at least 4 months (most longer) and not a single one had been symptomatic. According to my research If they were carriers the stress of moving homes would have likely set symptoms in motion quickly a long time ago. I will still be watching my flock carefully for a few months![]()
Chick Rookie, I wish I had a Cochin hen so I could offer you chicks from Big Man's brother when the time comes! He has been "going steady" with my gorgeous Blue Laced Red Wyandotte so maybe I can hook you up with some weird looking crosses at some point lol. Of course as soon as I do get my Cochin hens I will be happy to give you hatching eggs or chicks. That is, of course, as long as my flock remains healthy...knock on wood...
ok cool tyWhen (not if) we have our second poultryfest. All are welcome and all ideas are welcome. It is looking like the hope is we can find some 'chicken-neutral' place that doesn't jeopardize anyone's flock.
Any suggestions on locations and activities are needed and no idea is unwelcome!
They're so cute!!! Oh no I can't look... I'll get bunny fever! HELP!!!!!Here are our newest babies (rabbits). They were born yesterday. My daughter bred one of our blue Silver Fox does to her solid white New Zealand buck. We didn't think she was going to have babies, but she ended up popping out 2, which is a really small litter. The pure silver fox are solid blue or black with silver ticking. These babies are black with otter-ish markings -- white bellies and chins & white down part of the legs. It will be fun to see how they grow out. Of course the understanding with this cross is that they are strictly meat rabbits or if one is a doe to use it for meat breeding. Any rabbit that leaves our barn to a new home (other than freezer camp) must be a purebred. (Too many people have bred who knows what into the Silver Fox breed and then selling the offspring -- some weird things have been known to pop up in this breed!)
Dangit! U and Brad both got splashes out of my eggs. LOL It looks Black to me, but the pic its still wet so when they dry let me know what they look like. Grayson is my only splash , and he is so cute. My splashes have been light so far from my blues. I need a splash pullet that isn't related to mine.. Ashes my blue hen is the momma of all the dark chicks. Apparently she was not doing her job when I slipped the last hatch under Snow. I hope you get some cuties. They are going to be extra floofy!N
Not only is it up and moving around but is playing soccer with all it's hatch mates that are yet to get out! Has gotta be a girl too never heard such a big voice from a tiny little thing! Another is zipping now so gonna be at least two! Dark skin looks like 5 toes and Lilmizcareall may get her splash. Dunno for sure though still real wet n sticky looking.
Quote: I like the camp grounds idea for the extra activities. Something like brown county park where there are playgrounds for my children. But processing demonstrations might not go over well at a park or campgrounds.
Quote: I also thought of a fairgrounds, maybe the county fair grounds would not cost too much to rent out a pavilion. I'm close to the one in Franklin or Columbus, IN.

Awwww!I was able to find some joy in this awful day thought I would share it with you. Back story, I noticed the chicks were acting bored, so I put a few perches in ant different heights as I have different ages in one of the brooders. The first to try them out was my Dare-Devil Welsummer, BTW she is also the youngest in this brooder. The the oldest ( 1 of the injured ISA Browns from RK ) and then the biggest of DH's Lt. Brahmas, and so on and so on. yes I noticed I had 1 perch up to high but I didn't think the little ones would get on it. So I put them all down on the same level, and they were way too nosy about the heat lamp, so it is now on the outside of brooder.
