INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I did get my BLRW chickens from Brad. I then re-homed 2 of the 3 roosters leaving me just the pair I have now. I then got a chick from Welp hatchery too when I did the group order. I could not resist when some one else ordered them I had to add 1 for myself too.
The eggs were part of an egg order. I did get that order finally about 5 weeks back so I have a couple of CCL chicks from my December order. But there was a problem with the BLRW eggs and I'm waiting on a reshipment. I fully understand the reasons I have been given for why the eggs have not shipped to me yet. But it is annoying to have so many delays on getting the eggs. First it was the cold weather for a 2 month delay, then my baby delayed the eggs 2 weeks as I took some incubating time off, now the reshipment is another delay. Over all if I get the eggs soon I'm praying the chicks hatch and grow fast enough to be mature enough for winter before Dec 2014, a year after I ordered the eggs.

Sally-- Then your hens and rooster are my BLRW's hatchmates! :) lol Goldie and Nellie say "Hello"

Wow, How crazy long are they gonna take? Fingers crossed you will get them so they can be mature before December!
I saw this on FB in regards to the decision and had to take a screenshot to share. What is this disease Edna is referring to? Anyone else want to move in next door to her with their flock just to show how amazing and non-smelly chickens can be?

WOW...with this nasty disease running amuck in all the chicken filth, its a miracle that we all haven't gotten sick...smh!

I don't even think chickens spread that
..it's mice.

Well nope but...

Histoplamosis capsulatum" is found throughout the world. It is endemic in certain areas of the United States, particularly in states bordering the Ohio River valley and the lower Mississippi River. The humidity and acidity patterns of soil are associated with endemicity. Bird and bat droppings in soil promote growth of Histoplasma. Contact with such soil aerosolizes the microconidia, which can infect humans. It is also common in caves in southern and East Africa. Positive histoplasmin skin tests occur in as many as 90% of the people living in areas where H. capsulatum is common, such as the eastern and central United States.[2]

It's common in caves. You guys keep chickens in caves? Oh and unless you have AIDS you probably aren't gonna be affected anyway.

I looked it up after I posted and its mainly wild bird droppings (which landed on my shirt and jeans tonight yuck) and other animals. The only chicken reference I read was out of another continent.
I was being very sarcastic-- I guess that didn't come across! Sorry for the confusion...

"Edna" must of heard rumors or mixed up the specifics of the illness and used it in an ignorant way, IMHO

I was being sarcastic about the cats being banned too. But from what I found on google both chickens and cats rarely cause health issues unless there is an allergy.
I have to point out that getting the other property owners permission would be unfair too. As people can get cats and dogs with out their neighbors' input.
I'm also against those neighborhood groups that make all of their houses look the same with rules about grass height, types of trees, and even Christmas decorations. I guess many people have not read the children's book The Big Orange Splot

Haven't been able to keep up much with this thread lately ... too much to do outside when I get home from work, now that spring finally arrived ... but I snatched a few photos of the youngsters tonight - they are all looking so good! I am a happy bird lady!

Some of the partridge silkies (and by the way - does anyone here know if partridge silkies normally have the barred pattern on their wings like some of mine do, or is there a partridge/cuckoo silkie????):

The Norwegian Jaerhon:

And my Christmas baby, "Winter" has some beautiful color coming into his breast feathers now:

My quail chicks are thriving and I'm looking forward to June when my young quail and chicken hens should start laying.

I hope that everyone is having a GREAT WEEK and that all your feathered friends are in wonderful health!
