INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

My daughter wants to know if Silkies can be integrated into an established LF flock. My preliminary research suggests that they don't do well as an addition, and tend to be bullied or attacked by the other birds.. I'm curious if raising them together gets better results, or if the other LF birds will still pick on the silkies.

The follow-up question is, has anyone here ever built a coop into a garage? My concern is the noise of a car pulling in and out every other day or so. it's not a loud car, but would that still be too much stress on the birds? I'm thinking probably so.

I suppose option three is to build a silkie tractor....

Option four, no silkies at all, is still on the table. But honestly, I think they look like fun. :-D

I don't think the car will put that much stress on them. Honestly showing puts quite a bit if stress in them and all mine are fine

I usually go to all of them that are there since it's only about 20 minutes from my house. This will probably be my first time selling there though. I will be taking my black mottled Polish/Houdans and maybe some of my micro pigs. (Going to be sad to see them go- I love to watch them run and play.)

Knox is in northern Indiana, I have the flyer, im from Knox, this will be my first time going though, I try to avoid temptation lol! Chicken math, I have it bad. Hahaha

Here is the flyer for Knox swap.

Last time I went, I came home with 3 chickens and a rabbit. And last year I got an English bulldog there. Don't worry, you're not alone, but I guess I'm just bad at math in general :p

I will be wearing my Indiana BYC shirt, so feel free to stop by and say hi if you see me!

I quarantined in my garage for a month with 4 pullets and pulled a car in right next to them. They got used to the noise and all was fine. I have a couple silkie pullets I would give to a good home :) One blue one white. The blue has a crooked beak, so she looks a bit special needs but eats just fine! Both came from brad but I'm worried about how they will do out in the coop by themselves this winter so a home that can keep them warmer this winter would be better.

I'm also toying with the idea of getting rid of my Isbars. The green eggs are spectacular but they don't seem to be a very hardy breed and I'm not sure I want to deal with a special needs breed. I do have a Hedemora pair (from Brad) that I think I will re-home before winter also. Splash pullet and white cockerel. Both a bit shy but very well mannered.

I wondered that, too.
We have an established flock of 7 LF and 1 bantam. We added a silkie & sizzle to the picture. Added them as a pair because I had read that silkies may not roost with the other birds.
In my case, it is true, the silkies don't fly/jump up to roost with the LF. I built a lower perch and a separate, low nest box. They roost together on the low perch but nobody uses the low nest box--unfortunately, they are both boys.

The silkie and sizzle are doing fine. Not bullied.

My setup is in my garage, and they are just fine, my layers and brooders are in there.all my coops are on my Facebook farm page,

I'm in awe of both you you. My garage has too much junk in it to put any cars in. Definitely not enough room for a coop AND cars.
