INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

The thing is we have lost so many chickens over the fall and late winter with no traces at all around the property. They all go in the coop everynight and get locked up. Seems like if it was some other animal we would have seen some traces of tracks or feathers around.

Summer before last i had a sickly fox coming up in broad daylight, grabbing chickens in my garden.. sometimes it left some feathers or body parts, usually not. ..i finally got a look at it, its fur was greyish red, the eyes were nearly matted shut, very scrawny. I tried to trap it, but never could. Had to keep what was left of my birds inside till fall.

Bloon- love the pic!!!

crafty- yeah you just don't know what your getting anymore!!

cluck- I'm surprised you couldn't find any traces either. I used to have a copes hawk in the neighborhood. I could walk out in the yard and see dove or pigeon remains every time he struck!! Sometimes scattered, when he'd eaten from the tree and other times he eat it on the ground and leave a pile of feathers. Pretty obvious. No tracks at all? Do you have a animal cam or one of those red light things?

Nope no traces at all. I was thinking of getting a few trail cams. Right now im pretty tight on money because im unemployed right now.

I thought about setting out some traps around but i was afraid of trapping my own animals. lol

Sorry to hear about the missing chicks and duck! No need to be sorry, either. IMO, a free ranging life (with the risks) is better than a caged life for them. I also had 2 ducks come up missing one day. No sign of them what so ever. I accidentally let them out when I was changing water in the run on a Sunday. I'm hoping that a church-goer took them? It at least makes me feel better thinking they were stolen. Hopefully you can figure out what is causing them to come up missing

The trail cams are pretty cool. My dad used to set them in the woods to see deer and turkeys. Someone stole the chip out of one!!! Funny they would take the time to do that and not steal the whole thing! His were Christmas gifts!!

Are they being taken only at night ? Or misc times? Can you put something down that'll it'll make tracks in? Then at least you'll know what it is?

Well i have a job interview tomorrow! Its at a chicken egg plant. We have all kinds of chicken plants around where i live. They only do eggs at this plant so that makes me feel alot better about it. If it was a plant that butchers them i dont think i could work there.
