Going to give the barn a once over before tomorrow! I think I'm ready!

Big thanks to @hholly for making a trip to the house to loan out 3 crates!!

Sitting in Bloomington MCd's drive thru I tried to get a pic of the craziest looking little squirrel! Lol! My son was having a fit because I got out to get a better pic and just scared it! Lol! It had an entirely white body with the brown tail and little bits of brown on its feet and face! I've seen black squirrels in Michigan but nothing like this! Bad pic I know but..had to share!
What a little odd-ball, and how lucky to have seen it! We have a black squirrel that lives not far up the road from us.

Ugh. Been wondering where my hens were laying their eggs, but I'm pretty sure they've just been piling on top of the broody Australorp, who's only too happy to flatten herself out just a little more to hide them. She's been a pretty dedicated broody, so I think the girl's in it for the long haul and isn't going to quit until she hatches something. Anything that happens is going to be a mix for sure. Going to have to take a flashlight and some pencils to the ones under her.

We have two Dark Brahma roos and one white silkie (who can cover an LF hen). Of hens, we have 2 Australorps, 1 laying Orpington, 2 Light and 1 Dark Brahmas, 4 EEs, 2 SLW,1 GLW, 2 Welsummers, 1 white silkie (who might be laying and just hiding them immaculately). The CX and one BO aren't laying yet. Haven't actually seen any eggs from the DB or silkie certifiably, but they're old enough to be laying. Puff hasn't been doing his manly duties with our BB turkey hens, but once in awhile, I see Wun Wun eyeballing them like he might want to tap those fluffy bottoms. Don't think a Dark Brahma/Turkey cross is exactly feasible, but it would be hilarious. He's big enough to get the job done, but species boundaries are just kind of a real barrier...

I recommend some thing brighter than pencils. The broody eggs get dusty and sometimes the pencil marks blend in. Maybe blue or bright red colored pencils would be better.

I'm almost out of roosters. I have a CCL left and a few tiny roos that will be processed if they are not given away with pullet sales. I still will have one more day of chicken processing once I pick out my breeders and backups.

Now if I could only say the same of my turkey toms. They are still masquerading as turkey hens quite a bit. I'm think 1 maybe 2 days of processing for them.

I know I will have a couple of Toms to sell off for a good Christmas Dinner.

Pulled a General's Layout pencil out for them and marked them with the date. There was one egg under her still, and it was developing pretty well, so I put a three more in under her to keep it company whenever it hatches. All four eggs are from different hens, so we'll see what happens. Two different EEs, presumably one of the Australorp's (good sized brown egg, pleasantly rounded and roomier than most) and (I think) one of the GLW's super-long ones. Her eggs tend to be long and skinny, so we'll see how it develops.

My always broody silkie hatched 3 more beautiful babies! She had 4 eggs and 1 died after a couple of weeks. She hatched 2 Black and 1 partridge! I just keep letting her hatch after she starts laying again because I want more partridge and blues. So my tally is 1 Blue hen, 1 partridge hen, 1 black carrying partridge roo, 1 Blue pullet,2 black chicks, 1 Blue chick and 2 partridge chicks.
A pic of 1 of the blacks, partridge and partridge momma! The 2 blacks are teenie!
Aww too cute! I really loved the silkies and showgirls. Just not meant for our plans here.
