INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Been crazy busy this week, and am really tired of the rain.

Has really put a damper on my projects.
I think I have rid us of the raccoon problems but I never caught my fox actually 2 1 red 1 grey.. Pens and runs are much more secure.
Seems that raccoon won't challenge turkey and the fox are not bothering them either. Any pen that has them has not been affected.
My RP poults will be going outside Monday, and all my guinea chicks except the ones in the brooder.
My 2 pekin babies are ready to be outside too, they are just precious

They have adorable personality, and sure enjoy being cuddled.
Working my fence line with my goats, they are loving it.. The bursts of rain are sure messing me up.
hoping for cattle soon if the rain will stop a few days and I can get the fence done

First time for chickens, Buff orpington or Australorp are great choices. What are your plans for them, fresh eggs, or will some be for the freezer. Makes a difference in what you choose.

I like the Rhode Island Reds, but not from a hatchery. I recommend once you decide on a breed that you get the chicks or eggs from a breeder.
But if you want to see pictures of many different breeds, request a catalog from two hatcheries. The meyer hatchery in OH has a great catalog showing estimate production, egg color, and eggs size.

Now I'm mad sad and confused 2 of my roosters dyed I was acting healthy yesterday and when I wend to check on them he was dead and 1 was dead in a nesting box :/ idk what's going on ughh

First of all, I want to say Happy Fourth to everyone! I hope everyone has a safe holiday with no firework injuries!!

Second, I am way behind on posts....have had a stressful week and it's not easy trying to take classes, work and raise a 2 1/2 yr old as well. but any hoo

So here it goes....WE HAVE EGGS!!!!! (you u tell i am a total newb???) I am so eggcited because i got the best fourth of july present ever........went out to the coop this morning and found two little perfect white eggs!!!!!!!! YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! my girls are exactly 18 weeks old this week, what a nice surprise. As someone mentioned on here before, if there was a way to cast one of those in gold, i totally would!! I am half tempted to break one open and see what it looks like inside. I knew something was different with my girls because I could tell something was different in their voices!!!
just wondering...since this is the first eggs, when is it safe to start eating them???

ok I am rambling, but I am just so eggcited for these first eggs!!!! Happy Fourth everyone!!!!

my sister thought she would be funny and asked me how i got them to lay a quarter and i said that i just fed them nickels & dimes...lol just a little humor
