INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Old salt- would love to see a new picture of weed wacker Jimmie? Does he look any better yet? Is he eating? I asked my neighbor about hers, she is down to an older red and no females. I still have 1 more guy to check with. He goes and sells at a swap on Wed at Brookvile. How much would you want to pay? He found 2 Millie girls for me a few weeks ago for $6 ea!

hey danand~ my DH said today " i cant wait to get babies out of those two" pointing at the millies! once she starts laying, i'll try. i just put my young orp roo with my big girls, in a couple weeks i'll try a hatch maybe.

Quote: My girls are at just over 19 weeks. One of my phoenix pullets started laying July 5th at 18 weeks. Since then, the other phoenix and the egyptian fayoumi have started also. Still waiting on the leghorns, polish, and brahmas. So without knowing your breeds, I would guess you have another 4-5 weeks before you could get anything, and then it depends on what you have. I've heard of some pullets going almost a full year before they start.

gonebad~ Welcome to the Indiana Thread!
Quinstar~ Such good news about Alfie! We've all been thinking about you and wondering how things were going. He looks like a sweet baby. : - )
Crafychick~ Cute photo of the little ones fishing! Where did you go in Minnesota? I have a brother in Rochester and a sister who lived in St. Paul for years. We've been to the Boundary Waters area a few times. It's a wonderful state.
Old Salt~ Your photos are so beautiful! What a scenic place and lovely creatures~ even Jimmy. Which chicken took the "birds-eye view" shots? Btw, your faithful dog who just recovered from injuries deserves her own pool. : - )
My grandson helped me and we got the permanent fence up.

Here is the temporary - west side

east side

New fence - 64' x 64'

Dog about to become hen-pecked.

Many fluffy butts.

Chickens stealing potato skin snacks from Millie.

Millie said "Watch me do the Moses number and part the sea of chickens". Silver laced Wyandottes
not very impressive in their markings. Wyandottes and Jerseys are all pullets. Cochin are straight run.
Buff Orpingtons are straight run: turned out 7 roos and 5 pullets.

The cochins and the red laced wyandottes appear to be quality stock from efowl.com.

Blue cochin rooster.

Same rooster with hen looking on (2 months old). Jersey Black Giant hen getting a drink.

I plan to be at the Mooresville 7/28 get together with 10 freezer bound roos about 4 months old.
If they don't irritate me beforehand.

I have
12 Buff Orpington (7 roos),
8 Indian runner ducks (2 chocolate, 4 blue, 2 fawn and white)
6 Buff Cochin
5 Blue Cochin
6 Jersey Black Giants
5 Silver Laced Wyandottes
5 Gold Laced Wyandottes
1 Yellow Labrador Retriever
1 Beat-to-hell Red Golden Pheasant with a lame leg that hasn't gotten any better. I checked and it doesn't appear to be the displaced hock tendon problem. I'm just going to leave him to maybe heal. We will know in a month or so.

Here is a picture of the poor little critter in the dog cage which is his rehab center for the time being. His name is Jimmy Hop-Along. Or possibly Weed-Wacker Jimmy.
