ebay has some but their humidity is measured on the outside unit not the corded thing. incubator warehouse has some too for more money of course. And it is only one unit so if you get the combo unit you only need 1 more thing.


I have 8 chicks this morning. I started out with 36 eggs this time, removed 12 that did not start. so I have 16 eggs left some have pip marks and some don't. I'm leaving the eggs in there until none of the eggs have pip marks.
These are production rhode island reds. I'm only hatching the eggs so I can learn how to hatch the eggs. So if anyone wants some chicks, please let me know. I'm thinking $1 each for anyone here. I'm listing them on craigs list today for $2 each.

Parental kill urge is an understatement with dog bites. And I am sorry for the poster that's BO's are missing. I'd be furious as well as worried!
I have 2 Buff Cochins & 2 Australs (same age) in the brooder doing the clicking. Only 1 of the Australs isn't doing it. However, they are still growing, eating, drinking, normal poop etc. no discharge or crusties. Whatver it is, seems mild. I was going to wait to try Tylan until they've had the full course of Duraycin so j don't cause them antibiotic resistence.
At this point I feel I am doing all I can & it's a waitig game. Frustrating for sure, but I knew it could happen. Esp buying at Feed Stores

Sorry you are still having issues. Hopfully it will pass and they will grow up to be healthy. Other than maybe posting the question in the 'emergency and diseases' thread for some additional information. Maybe they can help out with what the cause might be.

When candleing eggs how can you tell if there fertile??? I candle most of my eggs to see if they have thin spots and to see what the inside looks like but I dont know what to look for if there fertile

Oh stop tempting me. Keep telling DH we need some more RIR's for next years flock. A buck a piece... ohh this is not fair.

Think I am going to have to sell my house and move to somewhere with a few hundred acres.

Husband cut me off from chicks for real this time.....do broody hens count in that category? I would LOVE to hatch through a broody hen! I have also requested an incubator for my birthday though!!! I started this 4 weeks ago just to her some fresh eggs and good meat....nothing more. I'm suptised by how much I love the whole process though! Dr. Em suggests 3 chickens (atleast) a day to reduce stress!

Thanks I just needed a general idea on what to look for and that helped I'm going to keep her eggs separate from the others

Until they have been in the incubator for a while you won't be able to see a difference. Also the more you handle an egg you are trying to hatch, the more likely it is not to hatch, especially in the first few days. From what I have read online, it is best not to candle until day 7 for brown eggs. And at that point it is for me still hard to pull an egg out so I wait till day 10. By day 10 it is easy to see if an egg has a growing chicken in it.

Well I just got everybody fed and watered!!! My LF are furious e with me!! I made them stay in the barn because ill be gone today. They are all clucking their butts off!! Hopefully I can get home and have them loose this evening. They are used to running to the field with the horses first thing! And it's amazing how with only 2 chickens gone how empty the barn looks. Also since my Roo has no tail feathers he can't balance to do his job with the girls!!!
