INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

pipd~ You posted this photo the other day and your black beauty named Po reminded of another black beauty-- my cat nephew, Poe, named after E.A.
Aw! Pretty kitty! :D Po baby is named after a Kakapo named Weheruatanga o te Po, which is Maori for 'middle of the night'. The word Po on its own is 'night', which I thought would be the perfect nickname for him. :)

where we were you could turn LEFT on RED! we were hesitant to do it, until several cars did it including a cop. and if you sat more than .05 sec when it turned green they let you know it. so glad we got out. we did take a weekend vacation to Mackinaw Island. very beautiful! would have loved to see it in snow

Ok Welcome to any new member, I sort of just skimmed through all 70 post I had to catch up on. I got back from Michigan a few hours ago. Dont get me wrong it was nice to go on vaction, but I do NOT like Mcihigan. Everyone I meant there was rude(not sayong everyone in or from mighigan is rude just the ones I meant except for one older guy) , maybve it was just where I was at but i didnt seen one corn field, and there was something else but I forgot while I was typing lol. My favorite thing there/ about Michigan was the seagulls (and you can find those in Indiana). I want some as pets, I couldnt catch one lol. I think the whole time I was there I feed a loaf of bread to them.Ok now that I am done complaining lol, I will post pics of some of my new chickens. Some of the pics are really crappy and I still dont have pics of my new EE and araucana, only my black pair of AMs.

Here are the is the pullet (still no name). I could get her to hold her tail up at first and then when I got her to hold her tail up she wouldnt stand up. I took the pics in a temporary pen instead of there actual pen too.

here is the cockerel (still no name). The pics of him are really bad quality. While I was trying to take pics he got loose and I posted the story on here. But anyways i took the pics of me holding him after and he wasnt very happy. When I hold him he sticks his neck feathers up at me, but I dont think he did in the pic.

he is really pretty my pics just really suck lol.

They are beautiful birds! Congrats

kaphyper~ The egg you posted looks like one that my SLW lays. Btw, your photos you posted of your flock and your main man, Gus, are wonderful! They are lucky birds. Yes, I'd say you have a Chocolate Australorp! (I like how you suggested that Darth Layer go tell the Australorp thread! Chicken! haha)

Speaking of a black beauty, today I had Violet and Adeline outside with me in the front while the hens were in the back fenced-in yard. I thought. I looked over and saw Jersey strolling up the hill so I grabbed Violet and quickly put her inside. Jersey casually walked up to Adeline-- and suddenly did the rooster side step dance! I scolded her and she sauntered off -- until I grabbed her and made sure the back gate was securely shut. Whenever I've had Jersey out in the front with me like the photo below, many people who've been out for a walk have called her a rooster. Maybe there's a reason she does the rooster dance and fakes laying eggs. Hmmm
You sweet kitty reminded my of my lil Pontiac. I got her as a tiny kitten curled up on a car engine. she lived to be 17, and was so precious to me.
Your JG looks hen to me, but get a good saddle pic, sides and top. Look for pointed feathers

Oh, and Rangi!!

Love all your babies, those tomatoes made me hungry!

jchny~ I don't really think Jersey is a rooster because shortly after we got her a little over a year ago she laid a lash egg. A few times after that she laid stuff that look just like scrambled eggs. I'm sure we're lucky to have her since she could have had complications. Since those episodes, she just sits on the nest and acts like she's laying. As far as the rooster sideways shuffle, I suppose since she's the head hen and there's no roo, she had to show her dominance when she saw Adeline. Jersey normally is so laid back-- she's like those types of people who are so calm most of the time, but occasionally lose it!

Yikes so many posts!
Yes they got into the mulch they just put down

we are out in the country but in a row of long skinny lots so instead of staying safely on our 5 acres or our imediate neighbors they ventured two doors down. I have a pen for them that's 27X35 ish but only about 4.5 feet high so they're going over! I had to leave the poor things inside the coop all day today for fear they'd visit the neighbor while I was gone.
If you clip only 1 wing, they will fly up a couple of feet and, since they get more lift on 1 side than the other, will roll over in flight and fall back to earth. Very effective in keeping them from flying over short fences.

AM astnad for ameraucanas.

I went to muskegon. I guess I should of been more specific I have been to mighigan before, but to a different area and it was nice. All the cars I saw people drving there looked brand new. Maybe just the hotel was in a bad location, but the building around it accept for another hotel didnt look nice (under exaggerating on the buildings). But I did drive through one really nice area which is where I met the nice guy that gave me directions. There was a really cool house that was painted bright blue and orange! I was suprised it didnt look ugly, but it needed some lime green to go with it.
Ha ha. All the cars look brand new bc they rust out so quickly.
Really! I was afraid that someone was going to mad that I said I didnt like it. Honestly I pretty much hated it too, but michigan adventure (a theme park) was pretty fun. But No way would I live. They have the most screwed up driving system. What stat incourages u-turns?!. Were I was at you couldnt turn left. I dont know if all of michigan is like that or not, but that is weird.
I grew up in South Bend. We always knew to look out for Michigan drivers, it seemed they were so much worse then the IN drivers. Really can't be true, but it seemed like anyone with a Michigan plate got their license from K-Mart. And the U-turns? It's called a Michigan left, we have one just north of Indpls. Instead of turning left at the big stop light intersection, you go thru to the next light a bit up the street, do a u-turn, then turn right at the intersection you wanted to turn left. Supposed to cut down on traffic waiting times and wrecks. Of course it was more expensive then planned.
