INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Went out to check on my broody silkie this morning and one of her eggs had pipped. Hurray! This is day 20. I had to leave to go to work (boo) but probably better this way. Otherwise I'd probably drive myself crazy checking on them. I can't wait to see what I come home to this afternoon!

Little Ameraucana mom- Do you still have some little Ameraucana hens to sell? I might need one of the birds she hung out with in the yard, if you still have them. Then I'm done....I mean it...done....really!!! Does anyone believe me?

These are the pics of my and friend's ducks and chickens.

Wanted to share a few pics of the new coop! We still have some painting to do and a few other things to finish (some additional ventilation, hardware cloth over the windows) but it looks pretty great for 24 hours of work this weekend! It is 15 x 3.5 on the inside and the run is 16 x 12. I feel much better giving the ladies a bit more space! We also found someone down the road selling young hens (just started laying) so we got four more. That brings the flock up to 3 Barred Rocks, 1 Ameracano, 2 Wells Summers, 2 RIR. I apologize if I butchered the spelling on any of those breeds!

I brought home one bantam hen this weekend and now she's running around her part of the yard looking for friends. This is sad to watch. I should have brought home two of them so that she wouldn't be lonely. Everyone else was raised with at least one or two of the other birds. With this kind of thinking, I should probably expand the run or make the garden more predator safe.

The little Appenzellers are out of quarantine and in the chicken yard now but sticking tightly together. They are so much smaller than our other chickens but they are mighty! My red sex-link seems to have become top hen lately. I am not sure when that happened but she is keeping everyone in line today.

Happy Monday. Its my first day with everyone in school and my husband is working out of town. What a quiet house I have today...
That's rare here, I enjoy every minute of it when it happens.
