INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I'm so happy! My first ever sale on eBay took place this past wed. I shipped quail eggs to Georgia and not only did they arrive today, I got a positive feedback! As silly as it may sound, I was a nervous wreck! Now if my Cochin eggs actually arrive tomorrow like they should, otherwise they will be sitting Neil Tuesday! Thankfully I reminded seller of the holiday and if they don't make it in time and sit at PO, she has offered to reship them. Ohh the stress caused by eggs!

Poggy
He does kind of look like one, but a full body picture would be helpful if you want to know for sure. :) His markings are a lot like my Speckled Sussex hen, Poggy.

Poggy is a beauty.

Roscoe had his neck feathers pulled by an aggressive hen during quarantine. Betting he's relieved to be away from her finally!

Roscoe is a handsome boy!
Picture overload! I meant to upload these last night, but I was too tired by the time I got around to it. These were all taken right before I found the girls destroying my one and only pumpkin.

Cubby, one of my 8 year old Easter-egger hens:

Debra Jo, a barred Rock hen:

Freema, also a barred rock, telling me I am not giving her enough attention:

Frou-Frou the blue splash Marans who has no concept of personal space, and Fancy the partridge Plymouth Rock being very tolerant of having Frou-Frou in her face:

Rosie the golden Sebright:

Kung-fu Rosie flying into the rafters for the night!

She Who Sleeps Standing Up, the other partridge Plymouth Rock twin:

Vespa the silver Sebright, who was being a ham:

"Why yes, I am adorable."

"...Ugh, what did I step in?"

And three pretty eggs as they were laid in the nest:

Love the little silver sebright!
i just skimmed over the last 500 posts

I about rolled out of my chair when I read that, laughing so hard!

Yesterday was my birthday and man did I hit the jack pot! First my mom gave me a pair of 12 gauge shot guns. We did not have any fire arms in the house, so these were much appreciated. Then one of the Grandmothers gave me this awesome antique rocking chair.

Then my husband gets me a kitten. We have been talking about a cat for three years now.
And now my sister is getting me another kitten so the other won't be lonely. Over all a fantastic birthday!
JACKPOT! Wow awesome gifts! ETA and I meant to wish you a happy birthday too! mind moves faster than fingers lol.

I like the chair, but why did he give you a dead kitten?

I don't know why people have to steal things, I guess the government didn't give them enough. At lease the po-po came in to look. When mine got broking into, only 1 showed up and never got out of his car and just said to us when we got in ear-shot of the car and i quote "we're just report takers now"   I can't wait until I can get out to the country.

When police tell you that, be sure to get their name and badge number just for your records. Then call police headquarters and ask to speak to the Supervisor on duty. Sometimes you need to push gently to get them to properly serve and protect.

Oh and for those in the city limts of indy, might want to put up signs stating you have chickens loose on the property. We had 2 cops with a k-9 looking for someone and was going to go through our yard WITH the dog and our chickens were loose in the backyard.

The neighbor seen this and told them the chickens were loose and all they said was and I quote the neighbor"Well, he's not trained for chickens" and left. Talk about a heart attack.

UGH! City life is NOT for me. I love where we live. I let the towns PD park in the driveway., we have a new grade school about a half mile north and I hate people speeding on our road

They recently annexed us into Ingalls. We are friends with one of the officers way before the annexation. Always been polite and considerate. They know I have a "few" birds

And are very careful if they pull in during the day. I wonder if the free eggs help

Just kidding, they usually turn them down. They usually will go for some lemonade or an ice water tho! There was a large bull calf loose a few weeks ago, and of course it wound up here! It blew through the back of our pasture, so now i know our weak points.

The little dove died. His momma was standing next to him calling, but he wasn't moving. I walked out and it had fluid coming out of its beak. I think he was just too weak. His momma is still out there next to him. It breaks my heart.

I am so sorry, its painful to watch nature at work sometimes.

Ok everyone, I have been cleaning up the Indiana BYC'ers Member list. I separated color/variety from breed. This was you can select "Wyandotte" from the drop down menu and it will bring up ALL the Wyandottes regardless of color. Then if you wanted to minimize your search even more, then you can select what color/variety you want to see. I have also eliminated all the different spelling variations and abbreviations to simplify the search. I am not familiar with Peafowl as far as what are breeds and varieties, but I think I will be listing them all under "peacock" for breed and then their variety (such as pied, black shoulder, india, etc) under variety.

If I can ask all of you to go double check your name and information, and let me know of any changes, discrepancies, misspellings, etc I would greatly appreciate it. ESPECIALLY CHECK YOUR CITY IF YOU WANT IT POSTED! Some of them got messed up when adding new names to the list. Please PM me with any changes that need to be done.

Thank you! The spreadsheet works very well. If you want additional details, my Silkie is white and I have 2 Plymouth Barred Rocks. All are hens except the Sussex. Nothing laying yet-they are only 15 weeks old, but I'm really excited over that first egg.

Sweet! Nice to have that long all at once. Really get to relax.
Hope you have a damage free delivery and lots of extras!
Kab- don't feel bad. I've been thru that many times. Birds, cats, sheep. And I have a horse calling for his friend right now too!! Oddly enough they will get over it quicker than we will but they definitely have feelings!

We lost one of the guinea cocks earlier in the week, Jeckyl. His mate Quasey is calling pitifully. My friendliest and oldest guinea, I can still pick her up, and she will perch on my chair. She takes a few steps and pauses. calls. I can tell she is waiting for him to answer. I know they "don't mate for life" but my 2 pairs sure seemed to have! I hope she chooses a new beau this spring when the others mature. My other guinea hen Prissy is harassing her now, and won't let her hang out with them. (Hyde was already flirting and showing off!) Moving Quasey back to the main coop so she can mother all the guinea chicks..keep her mind off her loss hopefully.
Im not posting this to disturb anyone, but anyone who says birds dont have feelings, have never seen this. I buried him. But it was incredibly sad.
Poor lil mamma bird.

hugs to you too. It sometimes makes us stop and realize how precious every life is, no matter how small.
