Do people really try to charge more for the vaulted skulls? I wouldn't think it would add value, but then again i don't know much about silkies( I dont have any).

I haven't noticed anyone doing so but it definitely is an advertised trait. Vaulted chicks do look cute after all. If someone is advertising vaulted skulls and or is asking more money, I would not expect they know the breed well.

Beautiful! Have you ever weighed any of them? They look like they have great size to them.

They really do have decent size on them. I have never weighed any, but I have an 8 lb dog and she feels like a feather compared to my roos. I am guessing the broody hen is near eleven pounds. The roos definitely more. One of these days I will get some scales.

So, I about crapped myself when I saw the size of Exhabition quality LF white rocks! They were like turkey size! Ccccccccchickens- I maybe hitting you up for a couple sometime! I also got to see some roast comb bantams. Very beautiful birds as well! But of course, seeing the moderns was like love at first sight! I ended up getting a pair of Birchen, a pair of blacks, and a trio of blues. He threw in a black breasted red and brown red pullets. I can't believe how solid these birds feel despite their spindley look.

Pictures! My babies have grown so fast!

Soon they will be having babies themselves. Here is my broody setting in her 20" wide x 24" deep nest. She is a big girl.

lol, you think that is big you should see my pair from Doug. They are quite bit bigger than the ones, he had. My hen has an easy 1 1/2-2 lbs on the ones i bought and the rooster I have maybe 2 lbs. My hen has pretty good type and great size, I bought the smaller ones because they have great type. My rooster has great size so If I cross them with the new hens they should have beautiful offspring. I am still going to cross my my pair from Doug together, who knows, maybe I will get a humongus bird with okay type, a "perfect" bird, or so on.(i say "perfect" because there is no perfect bird, if someone tries to sell you a perfect bird run in the other direction lol) My rooster has great size When I saw him at Lebanon, that is why I bought him, I feel in love with his size. One of the man reason I keep LF is the size, and the reason my white rock collection has grown so quickly. Your moderns are beautiful! My favorites are your black pair. You have to love their different look. I hope some of the eggs he gave me hatch, I got five Modern eggs!

They definatley look huge! My white rock cockerel weighs probably around 11 pounds (i have a scale just havent weighed any yet), he has los about a pound since I got him. He doesnt seem to like the food I buy, so I am going to pick up something else for him. I am sure your rooster is an easy 14 pounds. Whenever you get some scales post, curiosity gets to me lol.

Okay, so Ashes and Snow are each on 4 eggs. I had moved the boxes to where they would stay warmer, but Snow didn't like it and went back to the built in nest boxes way on the end of the coop where I don't think it would stay warm. I blocked off that nest box and moved her to her eggs and moved both girls and their boxes back where they were, then I went out and Ashes was laying in the straw where the box used to be and her eggs were in the box, so I moved her box back. They are both on their eggs now, but my question is, when they get up to eat and drink in 17 degree weather, will the eggs just freeze solid that quickly? Also will the girls be warm enough on nest boxes in the coop? They are close to the other six silkies, on about 5 inches of straw, no drafts, with a thick layer of hay in the nest boxes for them. I guess I didn't think through letting them hatch when it was this cold out. They wouldn't break broody, so I gave in. Ashes is super broody, but also super ditzy, so I'm not sure how it will go with her. She picked a spot and wants to sit there whether there are eggs or not, she is sitting on the eggs now. She tucks them too. She is just weird.

I was talking about the ones that had their own shed. I only saw a rooster in the modern game barn. I didnt see a hen. I didn't see a hen there close to matching mines size. My rooster is defanitley the same size as the one in the modern bantam barn, maybe a tad larger. I was surprised he didnt have any birds from Doug. I wished i would of looked harder at the pen I want to see the hen now. She was probably hiding behind the rooster.

Thank you! I am always the nervous nelly when they start to sit. I'm not so worried about snow because she hatched 9 of the babies from this fall, Ashes on the other hand is adorable, but a bit touched in the head I think. I think she may be a vaulted that needs a helmet.

I will keep a close eye on her and if she gets flakey, I'll give snow the eggs. It was really funny tonight, none of the other girls are broody, but they were crawling all over Snow ansd Ashes in the boxes. I don't know what they were doing. Silkies are so patient. Booker , my roo,just goes about his day a if its all normal. He is so sweet to the 3 month olds too. He may not be perfect. but his personality makes up for it.
