I had sulmet but the vets I work for also looked it up in their books and saw we could use trimethsulfa 960 tablets, figured the dose and they gave me a ton of tablets to use to treat and then have on hand for later use. The really sick ones that I had in the house I was using albon (same drug used on puppies and kittens) because then I could give them a set amount twice a day and I knew they were getting what they needed. Also had them on amoxidrops but generally when they started acting sick it was too late for them. I do still have sulmet on hand and the trimethsulfa tablets. What had us confused at first was it only seemed to be the chicks I got from Tractor Supply that were dying, then after the first 4 I lost one from a different batch but by then we had decided cocci anyway. My quail are living in my room in larger brooder boxes atm because I did not want to move them into their pen next to the chicken run while I was having problems out of the chickens still. I figure in another week or so it should be safe to move them out to their pen.

Hey, you are almost a neighbor! We live in Goshen. If he won't take you, we will! You may have to ride with chickens tho!

I was up in Warsaw about a month ago or so and totally forgot that Carole was in Goshen !

At the moment that is where my df lives, in theory he was going to move down here before the end of the summer but with the lovely attitude of my parents now I'm hoping he still will . . . . . . If it weren't for the fact that I have a good job and job security I would move up there but then both of us would have to find a job in an area where they are really reallly realllly scarce

(yes, I know parents only mean well but it would be nice if they would try to accept things. . . . . lol)

boy, this thread has become my rant about life place

sorry doesn't seem to take me long to get sidetrack and go on about somethin else

okay, another question for shelly . . . . . is it normal for the male quail to do this weird crowing all the time? or is it just because I have him separated from the females during the day right now. I have family here packing my grandmothers stuff up and my aunt's dog has killed birds before so she is super paranoid about him getting to any of my birds. One of my girls is healing up where he pulled all her head feathers out and then she jumped up into the lid a bunch to get away and created a lovely sore for herself. The other female has the bald spot but no sore yet, however when she has had enough she still tries to hop up out of the box and hits the lid and I am worried she will get the sores as well. Anyways, he crows constantly while they are separated and gets quiet when I put him in with a girl. . . . so am I correct in assuming he is just trying to get the girls by crowing at them ?

I will see if I can find you at the meetup then. He is a sweetheart too. He is in my coop with bantams and standards and so far everyone gets along. There has been some tension among the roos, but that's to be expected. I just want to make room cause I know there will be more roos in my not too distant future, lol. And Shultz, picking me up early is fine. Then I can help you set up. Anyone interested if I bring homemade cheesecake? My mom is actually in business for herself making them, and they are soooooooo delicious, and I'm not much of a cheesecake fan. I might bring one, or two if people really like cheesecake, as a dish to serve so everyone can try some.

Ok, I am getting psyched the closer it gets to meetup time. I have one more trade I am making with another BYC'er that I traded some birds with before, but at this point I am only looking to trade two of my birds for two of hers, cause she really doesn't have that much that I am interested in. I'm trading her a bantam cochin pullet for a cuckoo maran pullet. Turns out that handsome mysterious boy I got from her in our last trade is a cuckoo maran roo, and she has a little girl to go with him. I am happy about that. And I might trade her one more cochin pullet for a call duck drake, but I am debating on that cause that would mean that I would have two drakes and one hen at home, cause I already have a pair of mallard ducks, and the call duck would make our third duck. She doesn't have any call duck hens currently, so I am still debating on that trade. So....I have finally decided what I am bringing to the meet up:

1 Partridge turken cockerel approx. 17 wks old by the time of the meet up

5 RIR cockerels 7 1/2 wks old at the time of the meetup

1, maybe 2 partridge bantam cochin pullets 16 wks old at the time of the meetup

2 bantam buff orpington cockerels 7 1/2 wks old at the time of the meet up

What I will be looking for are:

Golden or Silver sebright pullets, or even a Silver sebright roo if I can find some pullets to go with him, but I REALLY want more sebrights

Speckled sussex pullet

Black tailed white japanese, a pair if possible, or two pullets cause I know where I can a good roo later

Polish pullets

bantam white cochin pullets

Americauna pullets

Runner ducks, color doesn't matter

I can't wait to see what everyone is bringing. There are so many posts on here and I haven't had nearly enough time to go through them all, so I will just be waiting til I get there to see what everyone has.

Shultz, what time do you think you'll come pick me up? I want to make sure all our chores are done before we leave that morning. I'll have to make sure I have a cooler bag handy for the cheesecakes. I'm ready for the meet up now! This will be the first Saturday I've had free in over a year. I am looking forward to relaxing and enjoying the day, cause I'll be back to work the next day! August 1st can't get here fast enough!!!

Yeah, he's just doing that looking for his girls. You should try using window screen to cover it with so the girls don't bonk their heads.

I think we have a coyote problem.

I went out to feed the kids this morning, and my black silkie's chicks were all huddling by a tractor, trying to get out of the rain. Mama was no where to be found.
I had a BTB and a BTW jap hen that were both setting on the same nest. The nest is stone cold, and the BTB hen is gone. 5 or 6 of their eggs were broken.
I can't find my mille fleur pullet, but she has been roosting in the barn, so that one doesn't make any sense.
I also can't find that pup that was dumped on us the other day. We have decided that he is Great pyraneese and golden retriever mix. He is gone as well.
So I'm thinking coyotes, since the pup is gone too. We looked in the yard for him, I was thinking maybe he is just hurt or lost. Our lawn mower is broken, so the weeds in parts of the yard are pretty high. I'm going to go out onto the government land next door, and see if I can find the pup. Cris (my son) is heartbroken. He walked down the driveway looking for the pup, and came back crying his little eyes out. I sure hope we find that pup

I just lost my favorite bantam pullet yesterday. I hope you can get rid of whatever got into your pen. I'm praying you find the pup

I got the PM's , Kathleen. Thanks.

I gathered my ingredients today to make the rice pudding with raisins! Plus I found some more goodies.....

Is anyone interested in pure Partridge Chantecler chicks? I've hatched a bunch and can't keep them all!

Quote:
Ok Carole, talk to you soon! I can't wait for the pudding, I haven't had it since I was a kid! I might just have to look up granny's bread pudding recipe for you all!

Sorry I have been away today, it's been a rough one. Glad you are feeling better AC! Shelley, I am so sorry about your chickens and puppy. Please keep us posted and I hope you find and disperse of the culprit! Chicken_china_mom, I think lunawriter has a ride for you, I hope to know in the next few days. If not, I will be there probably around 8 if that's ok? Whitney, I hope all is going well over there!
