I am thinking about the silkies but I also want another cochin pullet. Maybe you can help Rob build a pen and we would be able to house the silkies

I totally understand, I will talk to ROb tomorrow about the silkies, we have 2 so far and 1 showgirl. I would like AC to have my pullet, the others are boys for sure so I need new pullets

oh lord . . . . you better set up an acre of newspaper for me . . . . . its been one of those months . . . . lost 10 chickens to cocci and my dad's 3 yr old dobergoober . . . . . . .

It was extremely hard loosing all of them but I now know what to look for with cocci, I have extra meds on hand, and as far as the dog it has inspired me to work on spreading awareness that a very common doberman health issue tested for but ignored by the breeding population is indeed an issue whether they want to admit it or not. I have lost 4 of 9 dogs of the same family to von Willebrands related complications and yet these prominent doberman breeders tell me that I have no clue what I am talking about and that I am full of it . . . . while they go on and breed dogs that produce more von Willebrands affected dogs . . . . . crap, i got on a soap box, sorry

anyways, sorry about the soap box. Just hang in there AC

it is hard but we wouldn't be who we were if we didn't get so attached to our chickens . . . . it sure makes it harder but it makes i so totally worth it too.

Are you using Sulmet for the cocci? It should only take a few weeks to get rid of it, if even that long.

One thing I've read on here is that if you feed your chickens (red I think) pepper in their feed to help with worms, the pepper helps to eradicate the cocci germs as well.

I am very new to chickens and the BYC and I would love to come down for the chickenstock! I am trying to talk my bf into it tho... Hard sell, he can spend all day talking to people about hunting but cant imagine how people can waste time talking about chickens! lol... We are up by the Warsaw area so its really not that far.. Maybe I will tell him we are going to Cabelas....

I know what you mean. Hunting, guns, or tractors and it's a two day conversation. But I was crazy for talking about chickens. But now that he wants to raise meat birds (something he can relate to is killing something for food) now it's ok. Maybe you could try that angle. Raise some meaties then when they are free ranging he could hunt them.

I'm a very big hunter myself but at the same time I have a soft spot for chickies.

I've been kinda "hinting" at my father about the pullets. But I'm going to straight out ask him once the hmmm....8? other very loud boys are gone at the fair.

I told him if he reeeeallly wants Kernal gone I have a home for him... But since I told him that he's been outside more with Kernal and giving him more treats and saying "hes a good looking bird and how could you give him up?"
So I might be able to keep Kernal ( Miss_Jayne please don't hit me with a shovel!). I will still bring eggs for you at the swap!!

I feel so much better than I did yesterday. Thank you all
