Infection? (Graphic photos)

Welcome to BYC. Sorry about your chick. Make sure that she doesn’t get overheated. How old is she? Was she scalped by older chickens? Be sure to slowly reintegrate her into her existing flock. Using a wire dog crate with her own food and water to separate her but be seen by the other chickens is a good way to slowly get them used to her again.

She's looking much better after a night of drying out. This morning I did another rinse of saline and just a tiny dab of Neosporin on the bone. I'll do another rinse of saline tonight and give her the night to dry again. She's got a long road of healing but she's got her energy back today and eating like a pig so I'm happy 😊
That's good news.

The healing process is taking a long time but she's doing really well. The only thing I do for her now is put Neosporin on in the morning and let it dry out during the night. She's in a sterile set up inside the house. I use pee pads so she doesn't get anything in her wounds. I'll be cautious when reintroducing her to the flock using a separate kennel. She was scalped by a protective mother who's raising 5 chicks of her own and I think this one got too close to her during the night. This one is about 2 months old. She's a black Sexlink and she's very sweet and has gotten quite attached to me this week. I love this little girl she's been very strong ❤️

She got too close to a mother hen who was raising 5 of her own chicks. She's a very aggressive mother. She's great at keeping her chicks alive but I have to be careful about other young chickens being around her. It's so unfortunate. I really feel awful about it.

Oh poor thing, she didn't know better. 😢 It's not your fault. Sounds like a good mom you've got there.

This is yesterday's update. I gave her calcium sand to dirt bath in and it stuck to the Neosporin on her head. Maybe it wasn't my greatest idea but she sure had fun. I did my best to rinse off the sand and put more Neosporin on. It's healing it's just taking a long time. I'll keep everyone posted.

Looks better.

She's completely healed and fits in with the flock just fine. She has no exposed skull and feathers are growing back where I didn't expect. She's also hand tamed and doesn't seem to have mental trama which is a relief! I'm very happy she's making a full recovery and living life to the fullest as a free roaming hen 😊
