Infection or Eyeworn

Will do! I was able to get a little out today. I'll keep trying... Used some needle nose tweezer type things. It's a matter of holding her still so I don't gouge her eye! Eeek! I'll also make sure to not eat before or after... So nasty. The resistance that blob gives is yuck! I have tried pushing upwards on her lower lid and that stuff is like a rock!

I have the same situation. the yellow staff was hard to clean, I used saline to make it wet and pushed it with a q tip from both sides of the eye trying not to damage the eye. it had a kind of hat shape. then I put the antibiotic ointment and gave her baytril orally. her conjunctive is still inflamed but at least I can see her eye, there is a kind of tiny hole in the center of her eye which is covered by whitish conjunctive. I hope she will see again. there is no sign of any respiratory disease.

good luck!

I spent and hour and a half working on that nasty gunk. Got 99% of it out. I bet it was the same size (in chunks) as a very large green grape or even a cherry. I am shocked I didn't vomit. So I put Terramycin and Tobramycin drops in it. I picked up some Tylan 50. Should i give her that or Baytril? And how much/often?? Thank yall so much for the help!!!

Great job! It's amazing what we can force ourselves to do for our pets. The baytril would treat more types of bacteria. I have never used it, but I believe that the dosage is 10mg per pound of weight daily. Casportpony is much more informed about dosages of baytril than I am.

10mg/kg is the dosage (for 5 days).

where I live tylan is not working well, probably due to bacteria resistance. ask people in your area what works well.

My vets have had me give Baytril three differerent ways

10mg/kg twice a day for five days
15mg/kg once a day for five days
20mg/kg once a day for five days

The most I have read about other vets prescribing is 15mg/kg twice a day, and the least amount was 5mg/kg twice a day.

The Bayer website says 10mg/kg per day.

My go to dose is 20mg/kg once a day by injection. If I see no improvement after 72 hours I stop giving it.

Pick a dose you're comfortable using, let us know how much she weighs and we ca help you calculate a dose. :D

So happy I did it. I am the crazy chicken lady in our small town. Other people have chickens but they're not as into them haha!

I bet she's around the 5-6lb mark. My husband is going to bring me some Baytril from his cattle today. I've got the pullet in the garage on "bed rest" haha! Plus it's been really windy so I didn't want dirt flying into her saggy eye!
