I have a bit of a troubled rooster.
He's a Brahma born last year.
I got him last february.
He weighs 4200 grams now.
Within a week he got sick, problem breathing and coughing up small clots of blood.
I took him to the vet, he used a laryngoscope and told me the blood came from small inflamed 'cushons' in his windpipe. He got antibiotics and prednisolone. I nursed him inside the house and he got better.
Some days after he got sick, one of the henns also got the same symptoms, so I gave her the same medication. It took her a bit longer, but she also recovered just fine.
We noticed the rooster had a funny walk, like a Russian militair, but we thought nothing of it.
About 2 weeks ago, the rooster fell ill again. Short of breath, right side of his face all swollen, after 2 days his right eye was completely shut by the swelling. No discharge though.
I started him on doxycyclin antibiotics for 10 days and took him inside, to be able to use the diffuser with essential oils. (from the animal desk reference book)
He cleared up real well.
4 days ago I noticed he had a clogged up ear (right side), earfeathers covered in what seemd dried pus. His right ear was also swollen. He had a bump on his head above the right eye, with little crusts, that also looked like dried pus. I also noticed some pustules in his lobes (first right, now both sides). His funny walk wasn't looking so funny anymore and he sits down after a few minutes of mostly standing, just some walking, tailfeathers down... He looks to be in pain. I noticed nothing out of the ordinary when I looked at his feet.
I cleaned this ear with onmedicated stuff for dogs from the vet, to witch I added a drop of lavender and a drop of tea tree. I also started him on Baytrill (broadspectrum antibiotics) and a NSAID against pain and inflammation.
Today, the swelling on his head is gone, lost some little feathers with it. His ear looks normal again. Pustules are still there though.
I realised I hadn't looked at his leggs yet! So I did... his hockjoints look inflamed to me....
Now I'm at a loss here... Could this be the reason why he has difficulty walking, or is this the result of sitting a lot (so something else could be the cause for his behaviour). My guess would be the first, but then again, what is it, what's causing his troubled health?
Does anyone of you have an idea?
