Inflation

Whoa that's cheap!!! Regular gas is that price here, and diesel is $4.30. Ugh. Very small raises and everything is increasing in price. How are people who are already having a rough time supposed to make ends meet? We do ok, I am thinking about others who don't have dual incomes, etc.

I don't have dual income. I am a single mom. My daughter is past the age for child support, but I still support her. It sucks.

We are still supporting our kids too. And yeah, it sucks.

Yeah we are!!! Can't throw em out. Well we can throw one out and she has a few more days to get her butt back in shcool and start helping out around here.

Yup, times are getting tougher for everyone. We have a fairly good income here. But for the first time in years, I am adding up how much is in my grocery cart as we walk through the store.. Just to make sure I have enough money

The price of gas has taken away form our grocery money. Groceries cost on the rise, it's not pretty. We still have it really good comepared to a lot of people.

They just did this Time of Use pricing for hydro here. So it you use hydro bettween 4-9 pm hydro is 9.9 KW/h if you use it after 9 it's 5.5 Cents..

So I was thinking I won't feed my kids till 9 pm. Any it only stays at 5.5 till 7 am.. So I will wake everyone early for a good breckfest..

Just joking on the not feeding my kids till 9 thing.. But really what do they expect people to do?

I'm a Mennonite and I can assure you I've got indoor plumbing......as do most of the Amish I know. Inflation hits us all in one way or another.

Katy, my apologies. The Mennonites I knew in Missouri were of two sects, one that used modern conveniences, provided the shiny surfaces were painted black, and those who did not use them at all (and this was 30 + years ago). I did not mean to speak thoughtlessly

I do understand there is a wide variation among all people. Again, my apologies.

I predict it is only going to get worse, much worse.

On the bright side, composted chicken manure makes great fertilizer, and we are going to have a champion garden.

I have been thinking a great deal about intentionally rolling back the clock to a simpler way of life. Smaller dwelling, more self sustained, growing more, gathering more, harvesting more game.

Think coupons.

No horses to sell, but I have sold off some laying hens recently for a good price.

We have also cut expenses back a lot- no more fancy TV, (just basic), cancelled the daily paper, shop generic/house brand more often, (that has been a pleasant surprise!), reuse more items and sell the ones we don't use. Love www.etsy.com !
Our biggest concern is keeping the house- thank the powers that be that we don't rent, so many rental properties are being foreclosed these days! Yikes!
Chickens get to free range more, half our property is woods, so they're happy.
Garden will do okay, it always does and we have some raised beds going in that I will be able to tend physically. YAY!
Nothing goes to waste now, even the occasional paper towel get reused and then goes to compost.

Our main thing has been to reduce the number of mouths to feed. No one is allowed that can't contribute in some way.

We switched to Costco for groceries and saved $400 the first month. I was shocked. I need to do raised bed, but am a little intimidated because I have a black thumb.

Maybe the rising cost of chicken feed is partly due to the increase in popularity in backyard chickens. there's a lot of people that can easily absorb the cost on the feed. Same with horses. Here in the country at least in Colorado you have rural McMansions right along with the single wides and an acre of cars that haven't run in 40 years and sometimes a discarded mobile home or 2. The people in the McMansions buy a lot of 4 or 5 chicken flocks and don't scoff at 14.99 a bag. So as usual the price is dictated by the market.

Same old story different day. Alf Alfa is going for 4.00 to 7.50 a bale from a farmer and 7.99 to 8.99 in feed stores. We just got rid of one of our horses too. Just had no use for 3 horses and she was a very flashy horse. Went to a good home and will probably go far. Times are changing alright. We've always had inflation but wages have been stagnant for 30 years now. Bigger profits at the top and more stress on the little guy. I think we are just looking at a major realignment going on. Our food has always been subsidized and is cheaper per person for level of nutrients than any country in the world. So I will try not to get too bent out of shape that our prices are coming more in line with the rest of the world.

I do wish wages would keep up though. Tired of all the money going to the top. It's not supposed to be filled with helium after all.
