Injured Barn Cat

Our vet always recommends honey, too. Last time this cat jumped off the roof and got a slice on her foot, he dipped her paw in honey and wrapped her up and she was good as new in record time.
I second the honey. I was prescribed "sterile honey" (yes, it's edible honey) for my wounds / scar tissue after an abdominal surgery for healing and preventing infection. Most animals just lick it off but it does work.

You can give penicillin injectable. I have used it for my cats in desperate situations. I recommend the IM stuff. The subcutaneous stuff they tend to tear the injection site to pieces as it does burn. I get the stuff for cows and horses. 1/2cc in the muscle every other day for a week.

Thanks!

Just a tip, sometimes people will use clippers to gently shave around the wound so they can get a better look at it. (It will be hard to hold her still doing this, but it could make a difference in making sure what happened, by being able to see the wound more.)

That makes good sense to me... not sure we can wrap the cat well enough to work on her with clippers, but will give it a go. Thanks for mentioning!

Try these videos, I'm at work so can't watch them, but I can google.

Yeah, I've wrapped cats. Not fun, or always effective. lol And have been Googling this... unfortunately not many better solutions than wrapping. (Every time I think about wrapping a cat, I think of James Herriott's book quote that he sure could wrap a cat. Must get those out and reread... maybe garner some tips.)

We ended up using a Vetericyn antimicrobial hydrogel and it hasn't gotten any worse... maybe a bit better. She is letting us pet her a bit more now, so that is also hopefully a good sign.
