Hi all! A freak accident happen today, the cat got into the room where the chicks were, stuck his paw through the cage, and dragged one of the little chicks by the shoulder/ wing area about an inch before I reached him. The chick could waddle for a while and there’s only a little bit of blood that stopped fairly quickly. It’s been about 12 hours and while the chicken is still alert I’ve noticed that the walking has gotten worse and that she holds up her leg and kind of hobbles now. I’m confused as to if this is a leg problem or a wig problem? The blood was coming from the wing area.I’m not sure what to do about this. Could it be that she’s just sore? She is still eating and her siblings aren’t really picking on her as she is the biggest chick. It’s a Wyandotte chick about 4-5 days old.

Nothing much you can do but give it time and keep an eye on the scratch. I'd put neosporin on it. Cat scratches get infected easy.
The strange thing is, I can’t even find the exact locations of the scratch, just the general area where was a bit of blood. This chick is so darn fuzzy!

Maybe it was just a nick. My cat tries the same stunt. He caught one once but I got him before he injured it. Watch for swelling, excessive heat, or discharge from the area.

Walking better this morning, she’s still a little wobbly but weight bearing. I feel awful because she seems terrified to leave the brooder now 😭
