So I received a runner duck today who was attacked by a raccoon last night. The poor elderly man didn't think she would make it. When I went to see her she couldn't stand on her own. I got her home and gave her a warm soak and applied vetericyn and neosporin. It looks like the raccoon got her right breast and just took it, no punctured organs or anything and that maybe it grabbed her back because there's a raw spot there. I have water with electrolytes and apple cider vinegar in it, and food with lots of niacin and immunity boosters. What else do I need to do? I want her to make it, she's the sweetest duck I've ever met. She leans into my hand when I give her scratches and wags her tail it's the sweetest

Yes she is for sure drinking, haven't seen her eat yet, I think she's still in shock. She does have more energy and even did a tiny honk for me. I did see worms or tiny maggots in her big wound and drowned a lot of them in a soak and didn't see any other after that soak but you can never be too sure.

I'll get pictures tomorrow and post them, she's resting now

Keep working to get all those maggots out. Oh my gosh bless her heart I sure hope she makes it. I sure do love my Runners. I am glad you got her will you be keeping her ? Keep her inside away from flies.

How about B complex...what about kitten food just for the extra protein right now..that’s what Miss Lydia suggested with my hurt duck and now I keep it in stock..How much flesh is gone? Can you check her paleness of her eyes? Salt helps kill maggots..it suffocates them..won’t hurt her..they are hurting her...try giving her nice fruits just to get some food in?

She's missing her entire right breast, but just the meat of it. Someone said to give her a hard boiled egg so I'll be doing that. The ivermectin will kill any maggots on her and another dose in 10 days kills any that hatched. I'll look into getting a b complex for her

Yes I will be keeping her! She's inside and safe and warm. I'm picking up ivermectin here in a bit to help kill off those nasty boys. She's so sweet I want her to make it so bad
I don't think oral ivermectin will maggots, so pick those off by hand.
