Injured Indian Runner

This morning the wound appears to have scabbed over, but it's very dark, is that normal? It doesn't have a bad smell or anything (although he's not smelling too hot in general), but I was just kinda worried about it.

Otherwise, he's doing well, eating like a horse and he's diligently using all his water to try to clean himself. He's also standing more upright and quacking louder, so I'm taking this as a good sign.

That is a good sign! Just like people our bruises and bumps will scab over. This is good because it will keep out unwanted germs! It is healing! Have you been letting him swim. I feel like it could be a good time to let him swim. If you have other ducks...don't let him swim with them. He needs to swim alone so that they don't pick at his scab. Also...we need some pics!

He had a luxury swim in the bathtub that was much enjoyed. I will try to get some photos later, if he'll let me, his feisty streak has returned.

No smell no swelling or redness or oozing most likely healing. Might be fine to let him have a nice warm bath.

It's just such an odd color it makes me worry, but I'm probably overreacting. He doesn't seem to be in any pain over it either. I'm just a worry wort.

These two were the best I could really get. He's not too keen on being still and letting me move his wings.

Note, I did wet the area a little to get his feathers off of it. It doesn't have any draining or swelling and it is dry and firm to the touch.

It's been a full week and I've returned him to his usual nest. He's really healing well and I feel comfortable letting him go back out. Since he's still limping and it is colder than normal, he's going to be staying indoors, but he'll have room to move about and stretch his legs.

He was very happy to see his best friend, an outdoor kitten, he immediately began quacking nonstop while she cuddled him.
