I have a 7 month Ameraucana rooster named Moscato. He is the biggest out of all of my chickens, and he is very spunky. As of yesterday I noticed he has a weird limp on his left leg, almost to the point where it looked painful for him to even stand. I kept my eye on him, and was hoping that today he would seem better. But this morning it is to the point where he cannot put any pressure on his leg whatsoever. What can I do? Are there any suggestions? Should I look around on his legs for anything in particular? I hate to see him in pain

Welcome to BYC!

Do you know how he may have injured it?
How long has it been since you noticed it?
I noticed it yesterday, and I thought maybe he hurt himself after mating. He recently started mating with the hens. When he stands, his leg instantly bends.

Can you take photos?

Is it swollen?

Please look on the bottom of his foot for swellings.
Ok, me and my husband were able to grab him, he didn't even put up a fight. We checked his legs, nothing stands out. No bumblefoot, no cuts or swelling. We wrapped an ace bandage on his leg, but he still won't put pressure on it

Yeah, no obvious injuries. Maybe he sprained his knee or something? His spurs are still tiny, so he probably didn’t get caught up on fencing or anything. Is he eating and drinking okay? If so, maybe he just needs time to let whatever it is heal up. Oh, but also check above his hip - make sure he doesn’t have any hidden lacerations under his feathers.

If there is no visible injury, I would put him in a smallish dog crate with fresh water and food to minimize his movements. Hopefully rest and relaxation will help. He could have jumped off a roost wrong or something.... you can also give him half of a baby aspirin. He should peck it right out of your hand.
