Injured two day old chick

I thought it looked a little better 😭
I saw the mom yesterday with her two babies, those chicks look fine. I don't want to get close to her, she might attack me for taking her chick away 🤭
It looks better 🙂 don’t worry. Are you planning on keeping the chick and raising it? Just curious. I think we’re all in love and invested in her now!

I was talking to my husband about it. I don't want to send her out there 😔
I told him that we could get a big cage and keep her inside 🤭 he said she's a chicken 😆
I'm going to figure something out, I wouldn't be able to send her out.
That's how I ended up with four cats 🐈

Well some people do keep house chickens, some because they just want to or some bc of a special needs chicken. But I will tell you, I kept a chicken inside for the last week or two of her life when she got sick and they can be a lot of work and mess. And that was a sick chicken who didn’t do much. It’s ultimately a personal choice, though :) As long as you can give her a good quality life and she isn’t lonely, it doesn’t matter what you choose to do.

I always am one to encourage at least allowing them outside for a while during the day if a person has house chickens. But if you keep her, I definitely would not allow her outside (unsupervised) until she is 4-6 or so weeks old and quite healed up.

You can always provide her with a coop outside and she will return to it at night to sleep once you teach her that her coop is her safe place. They make prefab coops with small enclosed runs that are ideal for chicks.

I’m never one for raising a lone chick, either, but I know sometimes it has to be that way. Maybe you will come across another chick or two to adopt and raise with her.

With great sadness, I write that Baby Chick crossed the rainbow this morning. Thank you all so much for the help. Even though she was with me for a couple of days, it hurt. I saved her from her mom the day I picked up the ashes of my pet. She had put a little smile in my broken heart. I never named her because I was afraid to. This morning, when I saw how fragile she was, I called her Chirpy. I really truly tried my hardest to save her. Some of you might think I'm overreacting, but I'm a very sensitive person. Again, thank you guys so much for everything.

I'm so very sorry. :hugs Her couple of last days she felt your love after being brutalized by her mother. You can feel comfort knowing you made her feel loved. ❤️

Many of us have lost chicks or chickens and it really does hurt. You are not overreacting a bit. :hugs
